  • “export to tape” problem in PP 2.0

I am having all kinds of problems trying to export to tape from my Premiere Pro 2.0 timeline. Usually PP2 locks up and won’t work until I shut off my camera. When I do this, Premiere unlocks and is fine again. Although this is not always the case. Sometimes I have managed to get Premiere to control my camera and play the timeline, but nothing is recorded on the tape, even though the camera is running and the little record sign on my camera’s LCD monitor is telling me that it is recording. Also, often, Windows will recognize my camera (Sony TRV-900), but I can’t get Premiere to recognize it. Any ideas?

Try this: in Premiere Capture window, settings, device control, make sure to identify your TRV900 in the DV device control options. Also, use your power supply to power your camera. Connect you firewire to your computer and to your camera, power on your camera, then open Premiere, then set the device settings.

    Hope that helps…

Thanks for the suggestion. I discovered that the problem is a loose firewire port on my camera. Somehow, even though Windows was registering that the device was connected, somehow it wasn’t connected enough for Premiere to control the device. To fix the problem, I stuck the firewire insert into my camera and applied some ongoing pressure with my hand and then was able to record my timeline to my camera.
