Mike, I don’t want to get behind the scenes as much as I want to get ahead in the line. 🙂
Thanks for joining us Danny! Very cool to know that you’re using Vegas to make such cool stuff.

Wait, who said anything about me and a reset button? This is an election year, man! Want to see my hanging chad?

[Martin Sterling] “I find so many professional edit suites configured so differently I’d like to at least have an idea of what I’ll be walking into especially with no tech.”
It clarifies, but I hope you can see that that’s both broad enough and specific enough that you’ll be able to find that “out of the box” anywhere on the web on a weekly basis – especially because anybody who knows the answer to this is probably doing the work for so many hours that it’d be hard for them to find the time to talk about it on a weekly basis.
That said, I asked you to ask. 🙂 I’ll poke around and see what I can find.
In the meantime, this is exactly the kind of question that people ask and get answered in the Cow. If you can narrow it down a little, just enough to find an appropriate forum to ask, you’ll find a conversation get started that will give you all kinds of insights….
Thanks,

Hello Martin,
The first place find what you’re looking for is The Cow of course. If there’s something in particular you want to know, ask.
We’ve already been offering world-class training by industry leaders. Take a look at Aharon Rabinowitz’s After Effects tutorials at the Cow to see what I mean.
Next week we’ll start doing the same with Final Cut Pro, with a series kicked off by Shane Ross, The Final Cut Pro Minute. Even though they’ll be short, they’ll be exactly the kinds of power tips you’d expect from a film and broadcast pro…who also happens to be among a small handful of the world’s best FCP teachers. You’ll dig ’em.
That’s just the beginning. We’re working on more too. If you have suggestions, please make them in the COWmmunications Feedback forum, and let’s see what we can do.
Not a commercial yet, because everything I’m talking about is free. 🙂
Of course, as Kevin points out, there are also great paid resources like the Cow Master Series of DVDs. I’m not going to turn this into a commercial either. I’m just going to ask you to follow the Store link toward the right end of the orange bar, take a look at the titles, the authors and the prices.
Anyway, thanks for a great question — made all the better by having the answer for you here. 🙂
Best,
Tim Wilson

It’s not whining at all! It’s somewhere between a bug report and a feature request. You’ve even given us what we need to reproduce the issue.
As you may have seen in threads below, we are indeed at work on the search engine. We’ll be sure to look specifically at the example you give. We’d HATE for Dan to get lost. 🙂
Thanks Mike!

Love it!
Drop me a line (tim at creativecow dot net) or call (six one seven 94seven 4733) when you get a chance, let’s pin it down.
Thanks,

I know one producer who does biiiiiig projects — $200,000+ isn’t uncommon, and he’s told me about jobs up to $400,000. He won’t even take his camera out of the bag until music is LOCKED.
He explains to the client that this will dictate MANY downstream choices, including what he might shoot, certainly the edit.
It’s not just the beat. It’s feel — does the client want it stately, energetic, jazzy, contemporary…all the ways that you can describe music are among the ways that you can describe the visual style of a project. You and the client need to be on the same page before the thing gets started.
(The Cow magazine had an article about the importance of this for motion graphics, even logo design. The online version is here. There’s also a bunch of great stuff about client management, etc. Check it out.)
If all of this is behind you, the project’s already in the can? Cut to the beat. 🙂 Then, as you would with any other change, show the client what you have, why you made the choices you did (“dude, YOU chose the music”) then explain how much it will cost to change.
And if the client says screw the beat and just change what I told you to change, not one thing more…well, that’s what you do, even if the artistic integrity is compromised. The boss is the boss.

Have you stepped through this workflow using the native FCP generators? Worth doing as a speedy experiment to help the troubleshooting. If you have the same problem, then Boris may not have anything to do with it one way or the other.
If your experiment shows that the native generators work, then there’s still at least one other question– is FCP not passing the font information through…or is Boris not picking it up?
Of course, if the native generators still show the same problem — and I’ll be they do — then we know where Apple needs to start working first. 🙂

Y’know, it would be one thing if we were shaking our fists about needing a feature that had never existed anywhere…but one that already exists in other Pro Apps? Definitely too much to ask.
Grrrrr…..
