Posterize time is the one you are looking for, I think. See if that does the trick.

You’d need to use a simple expression to link the position of your arrowhead to the position of the end point of the line. Open the path info to position. Open the position on your arrowhead and Alt-Click the stopwatch on it, then pickwhip to the end position of the line. See if that gives you what you need.

If you have not yet, check out the AE Basic Training series of tutorials on VideoCopilot.net. They’re a great way to get up to speed on the basics of AE.

You could try going into the project window, clicking on the footage and selecting interpret footage – main, then setting the parameters of the fast footage to match the settings of the slow footage. Not sure if it will help or not.

I also seem to recall a tutorial on time remapping that may have selected every nth frame. You might want to try a search for time remapping tutorials.

  • Drag the new picture onto the timeline and position it where you want it to start revealing. Create a square mask and pull the top and bottom frames to the centre of the image so it is not visible. Click the mask path stopwatch to create a keyframe. Move to where you want the image completely visible and pull the top and bottom frame of the mask back out past the edges of the comp. Play with feather if you want the edges to blur a bit. Use F9 on the keyframes if you want the animation to have a bit smoother transition speed.

You can copy this mask to other images and use it over again and if you change the mask mode from add to subtract, you can get different effects quickly.

I can do quicktime. I’ll give that a try and see if the file is less insanely huge. If I can get 30 seconds into under 2gb, I will be happy.
