Ok, I’m not alone.

Look further down (a couple of weeks back now) and I also had a servo issue. Zoom would begin to “step” or stop completely at low speeds. I don’t want to repeat the whole story hear but YES, it’s a known issue although few have posted about it. On the various boards I visit one person from Finland also saw it so I don’t think it’s related to a batch or a region.

I sent Sony San Jose the camera. They attempted to “upgrade” (term they used) rather than repair the lens and couldn’t. As a result I’ll be receiving a new camera on Monday.

San Jose told me they were backlogged with service on two issues, this being one of them. They wouldn’t tell me what the other one was (vignette).

I find the use of their term “upgrade” interesting. It implies they’re making some sort of design or parts change. When I asked them if they meant “repair” they explicitly said the tech used the term “upgrade” and that involved changing the entire lens on the camera which they said they still had problems with, hence why they’re sending me a new camera.

So SBelcap, you’re not alone. There does seem to be a servo issue. I’m not sure why we’re not seeing more of it in the various forums. In my case it specifically involved low zoom speeds. Your case is more severe than mine. The person in Finland was less severe than mind. So it sounds like the issue can range.

My serial number ends in 808 BTW.

People – REALLY check the lens zoom servos in your camera.

Interesting that it’s not up on the Sony USA site.
Where are you seeing the bug fix list that you’re getting 4) from? I don’t see any numbers in the Notes and Limitations list.

I think several people have been trying to do this without success. I’m sure it has everything to do with the complete file structure which includes XML, SMI, PPN, BIM and what they’re pointing to.

I think you might be better of burning your edit probably in either .mxf or FCP’s mov wrapped file to DL-DVD (or Blu-ray or portable Hard Drive, large USB memory stick, etc) and taking to a house that can read the file and dump to tape.

BTW, relating to the above, using an 8GB or 16GB USB memory stick might be good small inexpensive way to move edited files.

If quality is really important, try Vimeo.
YouTube and Google Video will rank in Google searches so YouTube is important for viral distribution but if you want to send/embed links to show work to clients, Vimeo is great.

You can upload HD content (up to 500MB per week). It’s encoded to Flash using On2VP6 rather than Spark (seems to be what YouTube is using). The user can display at Standard Def or HD quality (HD is 720p24). And you can optionally make your source file available for download so if you upload 720p24 H.264 people can download that. Vimeo is free like YouTube.

SxS is both Sony and Sandisk. There’s also a rumored firmware update which will allow the use of less expensive cards. There’s a rumor 32GB cards by NAB.

Huh? Just name the card on the desktop or even in the Sony Transfer Tool. Use Delete All Clips and the name will stay forever.

User FORMAT – lose the name. Try that with your hard drive. Same thing. Delete clips. Don’t reformat.

Create Folder called “name of job” or whatever.
Drop BPAV folder in THAT.
Point XDCAM transfer tool at the parent folder.

EX1 HD to SD in FCP

The cards are FAT32 formated but must be formated from the camera as there’s other stuff happening as part of the format.

As you’ve found out, formating the cards (even from the camera) will lose the name you’ve given the card. Once formated, the better way to go is to use the delete all clips command.
