I believe you can record HD and set SDI out to SD (center cut or letter box) which would probably be much better than using Firewire. Not sure if you’re using Mac or Windows and what inputs are available to you but Blackmagic Ultrastudio MiniRecroder can go SDI to Thunderbolt. Magwell makes and SDI to USB3 “dongle” which may also work. It’ll also work with USB2 but at a much lower resolution.

    10. Craig Seeman – 11871
which puts me at the bottom of the top 10… only because I’ve been quiet lately.

2″ quad worked OK, why’d they gone and change that?
Using a CMX 340 was way cool and was a step up from the Datatron.
I EMBRACE Change especially when it’s for the better. 😉

Me but only updated one of my two primary computers.

As a result I’m now convinced there will be an FCPX update within days… because the icon does match the OS and that has to be a top priority for Apple.

Is this “have it working” Matrox MAX codec or Compressor’s. Sorry it’s not clear.
Don’t use MAX in a cluster.
You say “left audio as is” Sorry but you need to state what “as is” means because some video audio combinations might fail.
You should RARELY use “best” setting levels. They will take long and except in the rarest of circumstances, result in no improvement in quality. Always use BETTER.
If you’re using Matrox MAX you’ve still left off the most important information regarding the driver version. It that’s not current you may have problems

If you are using Compressor 4.1.3 you’re probably on Mavericks OS 10.9.2 or later.
You don’t mention which driver version you installed for the card.
Version 4.2.0 should should works so you may want to make sure that’s what you’ve installed.

You may want to test Compressor’s own speed though. If you create a High Profile CABAC setting it’s only single pass so it’s fairly fast and the quality can be very close to x264 which is used by Handbrake.

I’d love for him to do an in depth version. It practically looks “track like” 😉

    Support for XAVC-L?

I’m only seeing this on Sony’s XDCAM Microsite for FCPX plugins

I think he wants us to list what plugin(s) that would be.

I think Noise Industries FX Factory and RedGiant Universe have lots of diversity.

CoreMelt Lock&Load stabilization plugin really helps me regularly.

NeatVideo video noise reduction has helped when I’ve had no choice but shoot with inadequate lighting in dark locations.

  • For FCP work I wrap in .mov This is NOT a transcode. I’m using the native codec. I don’t doubt Premiere can handle it as well.

You may want to watch their Adobe tutorial although it might be a bit dated.
