“Good?” What’s your intent here? Data or Video DVD? Just rewrap the SxS to MOV with the Transfer Tool. Then you can use iDVD or DVDStudioPro and make a video DVD.

You can’t use XDCAM discs for archiving EX1 footage as I noted the dimension difference in my other post to you.

Why would you even need the cameras to “talk” to each other? Get them into FCP and then edit. Backup the SxS to DL DVD data discs.

At some point Sony’s “dump” XDCAM Player may also become a recorder and they MIGHT make it a compatible way to back up EX1 to XDCAM Pro disc.

If you’re using the Transfer tool you must be on Mac since it’s Mac only. Clip Browser on the other hand is cross platform (but only on Intel Mac).

DVD Copy. Data? Use Clip Browser to copy SxS to hard drive and then burn to DL DVD.

Huh? I don’t get your reasoning at all here. DVD data? DVD Video? Why would use the 330 at all as an intermediary?

I expect a firmware update which fixes issues and adds features. I think if they came out with and EX1A at this point they’d get a lot of angry folks who’d demand upgrades. That’s the kind of thing Panasonic would do (DVX100, DVX100A, DVX100B).

When you compare the EX1 to F335, I think the above is likely. EX1 has many feature the 335 lacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a shoulder mount EX announced. Sony has said the EX1 is the first of new series.

I’d wish people would get the names of the software approximately close. It makes it hard for folks to trouble shoot.

You export from FCP as you would for any other project. Use your Sequence settings.
Drop the mov file into the Batch window.

Drop the settings DG sent you into the Compression Settings window and then apply them to the mov file in the Batch window.

Episode does have some not so obvious ways of doing things so reading the Manual is a must (and it can still be confusing).

I’m using Toast 8.0.3.

You’d need to make sure your burner supports DL. Use the About This Mac command to check what formats are supported by your burner. You could probably even use Apple’s Burn command although Toast has added flexibility.

If your burner does not support DL it’s still not too big an issue . . . if you’re on an Intel Mac. You’d be able to use Sony Clip Browser to split the BPAV folders into 4GB sizes and burn that to standard DVD-R.

If the version of Toast is the issue, upgrade. It’s inexpensive.

BTW Toast 9 will supposedly encode to Blu-ray Video (Toast 8 supposedly can do data). That would provide an inexpensive alternative to Adobe Encore on the Mac. Apple is SO FAR BEHIND with Blu-ray support in DVDSP it’s sad.

DL-DVD. Perfect fit for 8GB card. Clip Browser can split 16GB into two 8GB folders. The one bother is that it seems to take about 30 minutes to burn an 8GB DL-DVD.

I’m sure others are just using hard drives.

It might be why it’s best to just use the HD clip in an SD timeline. Why downconvert first unless one’s NLE can’t handle the HD clips?

Of course you could drop the HD into an SD timeline. I did that recently and was quite happy. It gives you the flexibility to reframe the shot, do a fake dolly or tracking shot, cut to close up from a longer shot as if you had multiple cameras.

I’ve tried that and was not happy with the results. In my own tests I’ve found editing in XDCAM EX native and downconverting in Compressor 3 to look better. The above might work if you need to go out to DV/DVCAM (I haven’t tried that) but I definitely find doing the downconvert better in Compressor.
