There does seem to be the ability to find dedicated resellers.

On this seems to explain the situation.

[Bill Davis] “Is Dec 31 the same thing everywhere?”

I think it’s 31 Dec in most other places.

[Bill Davis] “I wonder how the US now actually factors in Apple’s sales projections. Are we still the monster we used to be? “

I haven’t seen long term past history but Apple computer sales ranks higher in the USA than in the global market.

[Bill Davis] “Now, from day ONE – that MacPro order is every bit as likely to come from Dusseldorf as from Dallas.”

Given the MacPro is manufactured in the USA, the shipping cost might be cheaper and delivery to retailers might be faster. Then there’s the apparent problem that Apple’s products in many other countries are priced higher, sometimes significantly higher, than in the USA FWIW.

USA is probably still the best for gross sales but that may be different than sales per capita.

[Bill Davis] “The US production industry has certainly been FROSTY with regards to X “

I wonder how well Apple is doing in “Bollywood” by comparison.

IMHO Avid won’t “go out of business” so much as get sold.

Avid still is a company without a business strategy. MC is not a major profit component but it is a piece in the puzzle of their hardware packages. I’m not sure what they gain by pushing MC by itself. That’s not a major component of their revenue. They need to expand their hardware sales and that doesn’t seem to be happening.

My own guess is they have about 3 years to either turn around the company with a new plan or they’ll be sold to someone who sees how to exploit their value.

    Agreed.
To me the big killer is that many of use are making December purchase for tax deductions and forced to the wall our money may go elsewhere for the time being. Then with budgets spent it’s going to impact Apple’s sales short term. Obviously they’re doing what they’re doing for a reason but it does s*ck for us.

It’s compounded by the fact that Apple hasn’t pined a date beyond “December” at this point and don’t even have the 8 and 12 core models on their site. Either the date is still in flux or Apple is making a strategic mistake (even if minor for them it’s not for us).

[John Pale] “That would mean a company like Boris or Intelligent assistance were making a product necessary to fill a hole in Media Composers capabilities.”

So if Apple has Motion and Adobe has After Effects but Avid needing Avid FX (Boris Red) also doesn’t make it less professional?

If it’s not obvious I’m being deliberate incendiary because, in the past, some have claimed FCPX is somehow “not professional” because it uses various third party plugins.

Please note the humorous intent in Jeremy’s post.

Removal of Sharp display from Apple Store probably doesn’t mean Apple’s 4K display is imminent

[Jeremy Garchow] “I guess it’s time to start the “Is Avid Professional or Not: The Debate Saga of the Millennium” forum.”

Yea! After all, isn’t depending on third party plugins to handle professional acquisition codecs a sign that it’s not really for professionals. 😉

[Marcus Moore] “Essentially, if this Sharp display is for sale on Apple’s store, then I don’t see the 4K ACD being available for at least several months.”

But why pull it at all if there’s reason for people to start buying the Sharp monitor immediately. I don’t see a marketing reason to tie it directly to the MacPro release since it’s useful now and otherwise people may want to order it now in anticipation of their MacPro purchase. It’s not an Apple manufactured product so I don’t get the importance of the “reveal” date. In other words, it’s not a new product, it’s simply a product from another manufacturer now being made available in the Apple Store.

[Marcus Moore] “I think it was posted prematurely, and pulled when they realized it.”

Not premature if one has a 2013 15″ MBPr which can use 4K now.
