When you use Quicktime Conversion, set it to Quicktime, click on Options. It defaults to H.264 Compression. You DON’T want that since only Quicktime 7 can play that and most Windows boxes don’t have it and the version that’s out is only a “preview” version. Click on Settings and change to Sorenson or Sorenson 3 (better). The Windows box will have to have Quicktime (6).

The alternative would be to create WMV. You could do that if you bought Flip4Mac

First, I strongly suspect what you’re calling “streaming” is “progressive download.” Your web friends should tell you that even if they “just” do design. Placement of web video is part of design even if they aren’t compressionists.

I’d make the size no smaller than 320×240 (if your source is 4:3 aspect ratio rather than 16:9). You could use 384×288 or even 480×360 if your potential clients have high speed broadband.
You might want to do both a Quicktime and Windows Media 9 versions.
For Quicktime use Sorenson Pro codec (worth buying if you care about quality) and do 2 pass VBR (you may need Discreet Cleaner or Sorenson Squeeze, which includes the codec, for that).
Deinterlace.
Play at full 29.97 fps (if you’re NTSC) for best looking video (it’s an editors reel after all).

If you have Squeeze 4.1 for the Mac. The manual mentions MBR. You can even control click on Window Media Video Format and set up an MBR encode. The results of that encode though is not MBR. The “powers that be” are aware and hope that changes in the near future.

Yup, it’s a Squeeze “issue” and the folks at Telestream/Flip4Mac have reported it to them. For the time being avoid MBR, WMV7, WMV8 for example. I suspect Squeeze simply including all the Windows settings in the Mac version of the program even though these settings are not yet supported.

If you have Flip4Mac Studio Pro you can do 2 Pass CBR and 2 Pass VBR.

The presets are really just starting points or something to use if you don’t know where you’re headed. They’ve given you targets though (56k, DSL, LAN). Bit rates MIGHT be (there are variables even with these targets depending on source and actual conditions) 32kbps/s, 400kbps/s, 1400kbps/s – these are just ballparks to try – your needs may vary.

MBR with Flip4Mac and Squeeze is not yet working.

I vaguely remember Sennheiser having a list on their site regarding best frequencies to use in a given area. I believe it’s related to broadcast frequency allocation.

Just to clarify, Flip4Mac also works in Cleaner and FCP (and iMovie) as well as from QuicktimePro. It also includes PlayerPro which allows you to edit WMV files in QuicktimePro and FCP as well as convert “the other way” from WMV to MOV.

There’s a freeware program called PatchBurn that may work. Don’t have the link but you can “Google” it or look for it on VersionTracker.

I installed a Pioneer 108 on my Dual800 and PatchBurn allowed iDVD to see and burn to it.

Multiclip won’t accept sequences. It can use subclips though.

I’ve had situations where, with reel changes, one would like multiple reels from one camera as one angel. It can’t be done. You can subclip where the breaks are and create another multiclip so you can put two multiclips in a sequence.

Yea, the other alternative is to take the sequence, export, import to make it one clip. I agree, not very efficient.

Subclips do work though.
