Oh yeah. Been down that road too. All are RGB and 1440 x 1080. There are over a hundred other photos in this same timeline. All shot with the same camera, same settings. Crazy maddening. I did find a post online that someone claimed if the project file exceeded 100mb, the error would be triggered. I tried to get clarification as to what “project file” she was referring. No response from her. I doubt that conclusion but a drowning man will grab an anchor if you throw him one.

When you say project file, specifically what files are you referring?

I know this because I’m currently giving up dumping a 90 minute project into PP that I authored in FCP. I wanted all the menu options and have been getting tons of glitches in FCP. I have been told on the other forum that in order to get ProRes to function in PP, all you have to do is bring the ProRes codec in and then you have common ground in each program.

It’s actually a 2 part family documentary. Each BluRay is about 100 minutes. They were amateur photographers with vast amounts of media. One 16mm dated 1939. I had those digitized ProRes 422 in a Spirit. They turned out amazing. They requested among many things, menu’s. I figured out why it wouldn’t render tonight so I am going to make a non-menu version in Compressor and then make a self contained and try dragging it into Media Encoder and Encore just to see how the loss of quality looks.

My workflow with FCP is a bluray workaround. I edit in APR22, send to compressor, use the HD preset and screw around and have many do-overs attempting to get as much on the blank bluray as possible. Send the assets into Toast v11 I think and burn a non-menu bluray. They play great, look excellent. So far so good.
The not so good. Render issues like mad, and no rational reason. I get out of memory issues all the time and it’s nothing more than an annoying glitch in FCP. Change a jpeg to a png and it works…..why? No one knows, especially Apple. Runtime error 0. No clear cut answer on that. Apple quit us and never kept on with the evolution of their product, which I agree is potentially great. I will never have a good bluray option with FCP, always jumping through hoops. DVD is soon to be the next VHS tape, why pursue a dying media.
I use AE at least once in every project. I can make blurays with far less workaround. PP can ingest about anything without all the transcoding. They still make it and I feel they probably will keep making it and better each time. I use Photoshop on all my stills. It round trips nicely within this suite. The audio tools are better and easier to use. I like you can scrub through a thumbnail in the browser before you dump it on the timeline.
I really don’t look forward to learning all over, it’s just the lack of being able to finish faster, but FCP is failing me.

I now realize after your last 2 posts, I am basically a high functioning retard. How do you know all this?When I brought the first XML in, it was red line all the way, so before I tried anything, I hit render and walked away. I think many of the attributes still were there. I am freaking out at the thought of re-doing my very attribute heavy project. This project was ugly because of the vast amount of different media ingested. Pretty much everything that has been invented. 8mm, 16mm, hi8, super 8mm, sd video, hd video, slides, photos, beta, vhs, digital photos of every type, and more. I used motion to conform size and aspect to the many varied formats. All that would be a do over. At that point, maybe should just start over using something native to PP.
Another question. What if I sacrificed quality and dumped a quicktime self contained movie into media encoder. Do I still need APR22 installed per the video you supplied in your post to make the encoder and Encore work? This way I can stay on schedule and still make menus..

Tried using media manager but it wouldn’t save the project. The destination option was greyed out and I was unable to place it on my drive. I am assuming I highlight everything in my browser and then open media manager. Never used it before so uncharted waters here.
I looked into bringing the APR22 codec into PP but didn’t find a line by line “how to” . PP’s codec options are a bit thin. In FCP, there are tons to choose from. When I do a project from scratch in PP, I will beg for codec answers then and leave APR22 behind.
What stumps me is by blind dumb luck, my first attempt to import the xml into PP on our maiden voyage together worked amazingly well, just not quite all of it came over. I’s a monster of a project that has taken a year to do. It’s done, I just wanted the nice menus that adobe offers and less workaround guess work compressing and encoding to make bluray’s. I may have to try again to make compressor work and tell my client that the menu dream is just that. -
Ok. New problem. When I exported the xml from fcp7, I highlighted my main sequence. When I realized the rest of my project didn’t follow it over, I did some checking on bringing the whole thing over. So I deleted the old project, started fresh, imported full xml again and now it won’t import to PP. I get the translation report dialog box, but I get another that says a sequence 01 cannot be imported because PP doesn’t recognize the sequence or codec……huh? Meanwhile my drive sounds like it’s working hard but no clips import. Any ideas?
