Matrox RTX100 xtreme Pro card works very well for me (and as advertised) I am welll pleased with mone now I got rid of a single plaguing issue. ( Caused by CPU temperature)
Beware… it is hardware/system “fussy” and takes a bit of setting up in the first instance. Read the system requirements and everything else posted about how to install and set up before you jump in. Works best in a totally dedicated NLE system ( eg Adobe Suite)

Have you set the work area bars in AE ?
What is your Comp length setting.?

Ken – this doesnt sound ( sorry) right to me although I know nothing of your breakout box.
I get audio through my external monotor amp/speakers when playing back or scrubbing. (PremPro / Matrox RTX / Audigy SoundCard)
I use the Audigy Card for all Audio in /out and do not use the MAtrox breakout box for that function. Maybe you can do the same with your audio card.

That would be very nice – feature request it. I’ll second it.

[David Cherniack] “I use this software for two reasons. Matrox Axio makes it the most capable HD NLE for the work I’m doing at present”
Seems somewhat contradictory that you chide Adobe for its lack of product development ( bad gown design) yet you state it is the most capable NLE for your purposes. (As it is for me – PremPro/Matrox RTX100)
I also hope that whatever shortcomings that have been identified by the legions of complaints have been taken on board at Adobe and addressed in subsequent releases if relevant. I think they have done a pretty good job of developing the app from its first humble steps to where it is today. ( I have been there the whole route)
Now where is that plug in for
….

My understanding is QT and avi are basically the same with some different info in the headers (whatever they are ?) The presets in PremPro are set up for avi so that is a compelling reason to use avi. Easy to convert mov to avi. I use QT Pro. (Others may step in here and tell you that movs will edit fine in PremPro). For me I try and keep everything the same as the project settings.
Tip for PRemPro exports ( Do Not Recompress)
You may want to check out any issues of NTSC ( assuming here) with what you intend to do. I am a PAL-Lander so can not offer much advice on that.
BTW – AFX does a great job of up rezzing and out putting seq. image files.

Complaints ? The original poster was venting because he did not know how to work the “save as” function to achieve his result. Simple and obvious to some, maybe more complicated to others. He was “enlightened” by the responses he got.
May be my “professional experience is limited” but thirty two years in the professional film industry should have revealed something to me by now. There would not be many editing systems (film, on line / off line) I havent seen or been involved with over this time. I feel well positioned to judge what is professional or not.
I stand by my opinion that Premiere has served me in a professional manner.
So in your opinion what is the reason an editor can not suit him/her self with his/her own edit workflow. Sure there will always be another, “better” or ideal way but …PremPro does allow a number of ways to work and I would consider it very flexible despite it not being perfect for all and every instance. We get by and get paid for our results (just like you do I guess)
Dont get me wrong – I am aware it has limitations but tell me what doesnt ?
“maybe I am confusing shortcomings with workflow” – what does that even mean ? I know what a “workflow” is (and it is not the same as a “shortcoming”).
In fact it would be a shortcoming if I did not know what a workflow was !
So why not discuss the shortcomings as you perceive them but continue to work with evidently. Your website indicates you are a professional so why do you use PremPro?
Anyway I am not trying to start a flame war – I am genuinely interested in what other film makers think and how they work.

My experience of film out put was done by editing in PremPro (PAL dvAVI lossless) and I then took the export into an After Efects Comp at the Film Out put Resolution for 1:1.185. ( cant remember the px but something ike 1780 x X )
From AE I exported sequential tiffs and these were output to film in an Arri Scanner. The results were excellent.
What are you intending to do with what ever you produce in PremPro ? Is this for your final out put ?
Anyway I believe you will be better editing in avi within PremPro.

Hey Eric…all that venting t Adobe because you couldnt work “SAVE AS”.
As far as I can see “Save As” works in Adobe PremPro as it does in every other application. What is not intuitive about that?
Workflow. I am glad that Adobe does not build its software to fit the workflow of some who post on the various PremPro forums. The beauty of it is it allows many workflows and we can all suit ourselves. I consider it a professional application and use it as such.
