ok so i managed to figure it out,

all the layers i am using are vectors and the little bubbles that were causing the headache were vectors in precomps (due to animation needs)

i hadnt turned on the “continuous rasterise” button on the lower layer and some of the motion blurs on the layers in the pre-comps werent turned on either.

Still dont see how this would affect what looks like a z-depth issue but ah well, hope my ramblings might help someone else out in future…

i think its in the camera settings, under shutter speed, the faster the shutter speed the less the blur

there is a blur level attribute on the camera also, that might do the trick, but I dont know if this just affects depth of field or motion blur as well…

I shoot either mini-dv or dv-cam, thanks for all the responses its a good topic.

My only thng on prism’s is that they potentially loose more light… or am i wrong here?

    isnt it the same thing?

  • I have done this effect using a few techniques there was a tutorial knocking around somewhere about 2 years again using photoshop layers and animating them with masks n blend modes using different grades of orange and reds.

The main problem with this is that they dont look organic enough so my preferred method is… use of stock film burn footage. use this with colourama effects and screen and multiply blend modes.

to get the burn at the side of the frame only jus use a mask on the footage with a bit of a father and job done.

there are a few places you can get the footage from do a bit of googling on film burns and light leaks and you should come up trumps.

I dunno if this would work but the way i would try it would be to create a light and parent it to the light streak so it moves as it does, tweak it a bit and it should cast light over the logo as the streak moves.
