now you have it separated, granted if you start the effect real slow the viewer may see some ahm.. problems with the background but i have sone similar things in the past with photos and they havent looked bad at all.
luma keyingis super simple for this stuff, cos all u wanna do is allow the highlights to be blurred jus apply it to the masked layers and tweak it so only the highlights are visible, then blurr the hell outta them and mayb add a little glow to finish!
use your trapcode stuff to add some particles etc and it should look ok

if you have then i’d duplicate up the layers adding different types of blur to them then maybe adding a luma keyed element and blurring that up to make it a little more organic. add the layers in sequence and then take them away in sequence as well but make the fade out faster, maybe add a particle effect to the last few layers to disappear if u wanted to add a little razzmatazz.
Dunno if thats what you were after?
Gimme a yell if not

I thinkt he boris compandium complete does something like this,
I found this tutorial too but i think this only gives you noise and not the distortion, but play around with fractal noise and using it as a displacement map and you might come up with something half decnt.

if it is just a simple cube that you are after, there is a cool little script that you can grab
https://www.nabscripts.com/Downloads/downloads_en_1.php?id=7make the side up in illustrator then run the script on that layer and a couple of options and BINGO
hope this helps!

Are your layers just standard layers and not comps? If they are comps make sure that u have the switches turned on in the individual layers in the nested comps.
