Hmmm. All I can tell you is I went through this same dance with a slightly different config. Kept getting error messages about Nvidia software not being compatible. Just yesterday there was a new update on nvidia and when I uninstalled installed and so forth it now seems to be working with nvidia cuda and card driver. Bottom line was the latest Mav OS broke it and now its fixed. I also needed to update the one for black magic to drive my broadcast monitor.

Did you uninstall the old one first? If not try it, reinstall and try again.

I’ve had a lot of slow downs lately where playback is crappy and the like. This didn’t happen till the last couple of OS updates. Curious to see if this goes away with this cleaning app. It’s something about FCP X and OS X 9.x not handling memory well. Or???

Why can’t the copy be updated? It’s a free update.

My favorite bug is when the space bar won’t play anything – i toggle to safari, kill some time, toggle back to FC, and it plays – like the characters on the timeline needed a break.

There is an ergonomic advantage to having notes/data/lists as a reference held apart from the screen your editing on. Or for that matter outside the script you are writing. That said once this data is in a writing app or a spreadsheet app it makes it easy to sort, modify, search. In list view, you could create most of this and see filmstrip and viewer displays as you tag/sort/organize your rough cut.

But I find that editing in the browser negates the most important aspect of editing, the interaction between these clips that only happens on the timeline. So I’m not all in on the metadata approach to editing. Somewhere in-between putting a logical story sequence together using the “best” shots, clips, and sub-clips and discovering beats and moments as the timeline develops is where I’m trying to aim.

I wouldn’t mind a stand that would place an iPad slanted from the keyboard up to the bottom edge of my computer monitor with a button to toggle my keyboard/mouse/pad being used for either the computer or iPad display.

Thanks Oliver, I get that. And there is nothing sacred about using a color wheel. All I’m suggesting is adding the complementary opposite colors on the bottom half of the color board. The sliders have these and they are self-explanatory. More so than the board.

I’m going to have to look into davinci lite to further my understanding of color. When I reach a point of greater ease with FCP X, that will be my next step.

Of course whether its sound or color or motion control all of that would require round tripping which is another work flow issue to learn.

What card is connected to the second display? You may need to update the software.This update killed my nvidia driver.

Right so in FCP X’s board, one color is added as one is subtracted. If I had an active copy of FCP 7 I’d open up the RGB scope and see what that behavior is. What’s ironic about this is the icon Apple uses for the board is a color wheel. I would think that means that it is doing the same thing as a traditional adjustment but a different UI.

Regardless when you go into the negative you definitely are adding the opposite color on the clip. Why not represent that on the board?

When X first came out and I played with it while still working in 7, I remember being able to use a color wheel in X, I think maybe as an option in one of the filters. But I can’t seem to find that with a goole search or playing with the filters. I do see a third party one that does it, but I never got any third party apps for X.

I tried this and see the pattern.

And yes I see the same pattern (like two ships passing in the night) in Aperture.

In Aperture the temperature slide will form this pattern.

The tint seems to increase/decrease a color cast but only one of the ships moves.

So how does this differ from a hue correction on a traditional color wheel. You move from one color to another so it must decrease one as you increase the other, no?

It would be nice if there was a pop up that lets you know what exactly the program is doing as you make the adjustment.

What happens in the RGB scope when on a traditional color wheel you move away from red?
