It’s a great mixer for condenser mikes. It takes 2 double A batteries. I use rechargables. Eneloop. Easy to swap out. But this is not the recorder. What I meant by underpowered is you have to turn up the gain control almost all the way and then maybe turn up the gain on the recorder’s input. For dynamic mikes with less than high sensitivity only.
But the mix pre d at bhphoto is now $900 and another $96 for the cam mount. Doesn’t leave much unfortunately for a good recorder.

Can’t speak for tascam. Though reviews indicate good sound w some customer service issues. But the mix pre d is a great little mixer with one weakness-underpowered for Dynamic Microphones. Other than that its got great quiet sound, great monitoring. Handy in post for voice overs. Great company and support. And you can mount under your cam. Sd 302 has more power three inputs more control. If you don’t loose sound quality with cheaper recorder I’d go with sound devices. I know this doesn’t answer your question but thought it might help a little.

Read my advice again. There are some great film students all over the world right now that if they feel the right project would help their development they would do it for a shoestring. Put together your crew. Content is king and you’ve got that.

Gotcha. and cheaper too. I’m also thinking that I could use one of those right angle connections along the verticals to a add a short cut off piece as a hook for the cords.
How big a piece of board as a base do you think I’d need to make it all stable. The metal floor flanges would add some weight but it need to be pretty tip proof. Obviously I can throw on a sand bag.
I wouldn’t mind another tube to hold my operating pole for the pole op fresnels we’re using.

If you are only going to use it this once, I would spend that $350 on renting better gear and/or getting a student who knows audio and can bring their own gear to help you out. Audio will be the key to this project and it will be really hard to do it alone. I would also get a camera operator. Video can get real boring real fast if you have one stagnant shot and fair sound at best. It seems like you have a really interesting project and the key to getting it seen is good production. There are a lot of skilled film students now a days. $350 won’t pay for a pro with gear or I would suggest that.

Yes it definitely is a possibility. Funny I used those floor flanges several years ago when I built my own table using plumping pipe for the legs. One to attach to the table top and one below for the feet. Very solid and it didn’t cost much to have the pipe cut to size and threaded. I suppose that’s another possibility though I think the booms would get stratched going in and out of metal.
What glue did you use on the PVC?

They both said EGT is the correct bulb type for those 1k fresnels. Not sure why BH would have anything else listed as options. Further they don’t list the recommended one that they also sell and is the cheapest.

Did some searching. The letters are an ANSI Code. But it is not clear exactly how these are defined. I believe there is a listing (and it is written by a specific organization) but it is not obvious or a simple top google hit away. On one description of a bulb of a certain code and shape it implied the shape helped determine the throw. I don’t have the link cause I thought I’d get more comprehensive hits.
And yes I know not to touch these types of bulbs.
Arri has some 1K lights that they say you should or could use 750 bulbs and get the same output. This suggests that there are other variables that determine how bright the lamp gets.
Arri and Desisti both use these G22 bulbs and I need to order a bunch so I was hoping for some specific recommendation. If not I’ll stay with what I got last time.

Thank you again.Here’s the deal. I am handing out and collecting throughout the day 5-6 boom poles with mikes attached.
I want them left extended. With mikes attached.
I want a holder for it where they are secure upright – easy in and out. At a glance can see which have been returned. Would not mind hooks to hang the Xlr cables.
There is no wall I can use. PVC is perfect cause it won’t stratch the poles and smooth in and out. I could even number them by team so they can put away their own. Must be completely tip- proof.
