[Nicholastoth] “Is there an auto way to flush your cache after each frame is rendered?”
Yes, there is. Hold shift while going to the preferences to get the secret ones. Under the “secret preferences” dropdown there is an option for “Flush Every ___ frames during render.” This setting can help eliminate some out of RAM errors duing renders. For more info on the secret prefs, search the archives for “Secret Preferences.”

Yes, if you are a decent user of any major 3d package, you can do anything any of the 3d plug ins for AE do. The only issue is that having to do things in a 3d app takes a lot longer and the workflow is more convoluted. For instance, you could make some quick, nice 3d text in Zaxwerks or you could open up Maya, make some text curves, extrude and bevel them, set up your batch render, render it out, import the camera data into AE and then be done. If you don’t need the flexibility and added feature set that a big 3d program has, it can be easier and quicker to use plug ins like Zaxwekrs. However, if you do need some more advanced stuff and don’t mind a bit of a learning curve, look into a 3d program.

June 30, 2006 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Matching AE camera rotation with footage of rotating object ?Dan’s solution makes a lot more sense than trying to rotate the camera based on what frame of the movie is playing. You couldn’t rotate the camera based on the footage because the lazy susan in the footage would have to rotate at exactly the same speed the whole time for it to work.

…or if you hold the spacebar key, the same thing will happen as if you hold the H key. And for those of us who have to look at the keyboard to type, such as myself, spacebar is easier to use.

That sounds about right to me. 🙂

This question gets asked alot, I suggest you search the archives for the terms RAM or search for all posts by a guy named Steve Forde. Also, try searching for the term 3GB Switch and RAM Black hole .
Anyway heres a run through of how much RAM you can and can’t use.
Well, all apps that you would run on XP Pro are 32 bit, and usually can adress only 2 GB of RAM. Some apps are “large address aware” and when you add the 3GB switch to the boot.ini file, can use up to 3 GB. For more than 3 GB of RAM you will need 64 bit windows. -
