Adding new vertices to unclosed mask
This question seems simple but I can’t find an answer in the manual or on this forum. When I am rotoscoping an object, it often helps to magnify the image so I can more easily trace it. So I’m tracing along and I get to the point where I need to move the screen over to continue. As soon as I hit the spacebar to move the screen, AE thinks my mask, though unclosed, is done. So when I try to continue on, it starts a new mask instead of continuing on from where I was. Now I know you can add new points to a mask by clicking with the pen tool on an existing line of the mask, but I don’t want to do that – I want to be able to click a new point and have AE draw a line from my previous point to the new one so I can continue tracing. Isn’t there some simple command to tell AE that I am continuing the existing mask?

Well, I was right about one thing — it IS a simple question! Duh!
I figured out that all I need to do is make sure the mask from which I want to continue is selected before I make my next click with the pen tool.

… and if you hold down the H key, do the move, then release the H key, you’re back to the G key with no ill effects. 🙂

…or if you hold the spacebar key, the same thing will happen as if you hold the H key. And for those of us who have to look at the keyboard to type, such as myself, spacebar is easier to use.

Thanks for the additional tips. I did discover the bit about holding (instead of tapping) the spacebar, but didn’t know about the “h” and “g” keys.
