Thanks Daniel. But what does “a valid elementary-stream for DVD” mean?

    Thanks Ryan!

I tried both and can’t see any difference, at least to my eye. And the render time in using the built-in deinterlacing is super fast! Using Magic Bullet Frames, it 40 seconds to render the 5 sec. clip. Using built-in, it was just 18 secs. Fanstastic! Thanks again, Ryan. That was really helpful. Will never use Frames again. God bless.

In Adobe Media Encoder, particularly in the Export Settings, if I choose “progressive” in the Field Order drop-down list, will AME automatically convert my upper-field-first video to progressive? Will it yield the same result/quality as that of Magic Bullet Frame’s deinterlacing? Thanks!

    Thanks Ryan!

The problem is actually the deadline. I have about 20 hours of edited interlaced footage. I tried deinterlacing with Magic Bullet Frames and the resulting estimated encoding time was about 14 hours for just two hours of video. So I thought if interlaced video will look the same as progressive on LCD screens, I’d rather keep it that way so I can finish faster. (The estimated encoding time is actually on an overclocked i7 4790K with 32gigs of RAM. This morning, I replaced the stock heat sink with a radiator type liquid cooling system so I can overclock to 4.4Ghz without overheating). But of course, if the resulting video will look awful, I’ll look for another route.

Thanks Daniel! You’re instructions are very accurate. Was able to go through the settings easily.

I’m just wondering, my videos are already transcoded to MPEG2-DVD (upper field first) before I brought them into Encore. You mentioned that i should only do this with an “untranscoded” video. In the Project Window, in the DVD Transcode Status, it actually says, “Don’t transcode.”

Should i skip this step because my video is already transcoded and just go directly to building/writing on disc?

    Thanks a lot Daniel ☺

[Ryan Holmes] “interlaced footage on YouTube tends to look terrible”

You’re right. That’s what Youtube wants: de-interlaced videos.

But I’ve read somewhere that progressive screens will not care if you’re footage is interlaced or progressive. What if I upload the video to sites other than Youtube, is interlaced ok? What do you think?

The video is already transcoded (in MPEG2-DVD UpperField First using Adobe Media Encoder) before I brought it into Encore.

The reason why made it it upper-field-first is because the original footage was also upper field first (1080i Upper Field First).

Is there a way I can set field order in Encore to upper field first for DVD?

  • Hi! I’ve almost the same question.

I’m not a very techie person; I’m deciding on whether to continue using my old video card or buy a new one.

I bought a new computer with almost the same specs as Marie Mae’s computer: Asus gaming board, i7 4790K, 32 gig ram, and a total of 4 terabytes of internal hard drive.

I’ve read somewhere that After Effects’ Render Cue relies on the processor and RAM. How about RAM previews, does it rely on the video card for processing? Will both RAM preview and Render Cue benefit from a more powerful video card? Will it improve Ray-traced 3D in After Effects? I am using my old Asus GT730 with only 2gigabytes of RAM on my new computer. Thanks! God bless!
