    I see. About the GOP Settings where M frames are at 3 and N Frames are at 12, what do those numbers mean? Will I always use 3 and 12 whenever I make a DVD for both 29.97 and 23.976 or is it for 23.976 only?

    I see. If all those DVDs are 24p, then there’s no need to convert them to 29.97. I’ll just work all the way from Premiere to Encore to the finished DVD in 24p.

    The reason why I made mpeg2s in AE is because I saw a tutorial by Andrew Kramer where he used AE to make mpeg2 for use in Encore.

    Thank you very much Jeff. I will try adding the pulldown in AE (I’m not sure if it has, but I’ll look for it). I will also try authoring a 23.98p DVD and see which one will give the best results.

    So if I now have mpeg2-dvd format video files in Encore (exported from AE at 23.976), will Encore create the DVD (NTSC) in the proper 29.97 standard frame rate?

    What does that mean? I shot with a Panasonic DVX100B, then attached a firewire to my PC and downloaded to a 24p preset timeline in Premiere. As far as I know, the DVX100b shoots 23.976.

    24p cameras record at 29.97 (to be NTSC compliant) but when you drop it to the 24p preset timeline and when you can count the frames by scrolling the timebase counter, it’s 24. So I guess premiere automatically removes the pulldown. Now how do I “explicitly” introduce back the pull down to make it 29.97 again when I export?

    When I played with the counter, the digits return to zero (when on the 24p preset timeline) when it reaches 23. So I guess it automatically removed the pulldown. Now, the frame rate is actually 24 frames in a minute. What do you think?

    Do you think this is what caused the jittery movements: I worked on a timeline at 24 frames per second (24p preset), I the exported uncompressed using “29.97” and used the footage in after effects, then I exported to encore with the mpeg2-dvd preset (which is also 29.97)

    I think what I should have done is edit in 24p, export intermediate video file to AE (for color grading) using 24fps settings (23.976), then when in AE export again to encore with mpeg2-dvd at 29.97.
