Here’ what I’m trying to do: edit in Premiere, Color in After Effects, and burn the DVD in Encore.
After editing in Premiere and it’s now time to export it (as an intermediate file to be color graded in AE), I’ll export it as Uncompressed Microsoft AVI. In the basic settings, what frame rate should I choose: 23.976 or 24.97?

If it’s recorded at 29.97, can I use the NTSC 29.97 preset timeline in Premiere instead of the 24p preset? Does it matter if I download using the dvx100b or any cheap NTSC miniDV camcorder attached to my PC?

What SLR lens will I use so that when I shoot close up (from top of head to shoulder) I will get an even focus of the whole head? I think I read it (also from you, Todd) that when I shoot with 50mm at that distance, I’ll blur the ears if I try to focus on the nose.

“I am having Vista 64-bit system with Pinnacle 12 Pro and cannot find any current editor or tool to be able import any type of movies from this camera. I have plenty of footage and do not know how to transfer and edit it. I tested also possibility to get this MP4 files re wrapped as MXF files using the Windows Clip Browser software, but unfortunately that does not recognize any footage either. While this camcorder probably works perfectly and exports into Final Cut Pro on Macintosh, Windows users are not so lucky. I was testing several software packages and did not succeed on my Vista-64 bit system to import any movies into Pinnacle 12 Pro, Sonny Vegas Pro 7, Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or AVID Liquid 7 with MXF re-wrapping or without. Big disappointment.”
I’m using Premiere Pro CS4 that’s why I’m worried about purchasing this camera.

I watched your footage and the image is warping from top to bottom. I just visited Canon showroom yesterday and tried both the 500D and the 5d Mark II. The 500D’s video exhibited skewing. The 5D Mark II did not, even when I’m panning really fast. But I’m really not sure because I’m just looking at the camera’s LCD. There were some distortion going on though, but it could be from the lens… really not sure.
Anyway, the 5D is really expensive, about thrice the price of the Nikon D90. Do you know of a camera that is just one notch up the D90, pricewise, that does not skew images when panning? Thanks Jeroen!

I do not have a broadcast monitor on this editing system that I’m using at this time so I can’t really tell the difference between “DVCPro NTSC” and “Uncompressed Microsoft AVI”. (I’m just using SD DV footages). They look the same on my Acer monitor.
But with with Quicktime “DVCPro NTSC” and Quicktime “Animation,” the diffence is very apparent. There are visible noise (like colored dots) all over using the Animation codec. Are there some settings that I failed to adjust?
Going back to Uncompressed Microsoft AVI, I have two more questions:
1. What should I use for the video codec, V210 or UYVY? What’s the difference, and
2. Should I choose “Lower First” for the field type (I’m using NTSC DV raw footages shot using DVX100B at 29.97 interlaced NTSC) or leave it at “progressive”? NTSC DV’s field order is lower first so I think that’s what I should use.
