The two processors you listed are pretty much the same thing. I think I usually gravitate towards AMD products, but if you can afford a quad core, I’d recommend that.

I think it’d be important to get a 64 bit OS so you can jack up the RAM in your system.

Saying that, if you’re working on a budget the computer I started working with AE/Pr/En/Ps with was an

    AMD Athlon x2 DualCore 5600+
    2.81 GHz
4 (3.25 is all the computer can see) GB of RAM
NVidia GeForce 8400 GS video card
    Windows XP Pro 32 bit

It seems to do most things I want. It struggles a bit with Dynamic Linking if there’s more than one or two, but the OpenGL properties of the fairly inexpensive video card work really well with Ps and AE.

Hope this helps… I’m def. not a pro when it comes to this, but if you post the specs of the 2 pc’s we can find which is better.

We’ve had this problem with some Sony BD players as well. We believe this is because Encore doesn’t included the AACS copy-protection files, and some Blu-ray players won’t play a disc without it. We have a very nice Samsung which does a great job playing the discs I’ve made.

    Hope this helps,

    Dave, Larry and Tim,

I wanted to thanks all 3 of you for your helpful comments.

I’m going to take your advice and look for an SDI capture card so I can keep the quality high before mpeg conversion.

Another question, how is CS4’s SDI capturing ability? What project preset would be best? I’m guessing I would just use the 4:3 or 16:9 SD PAL/NTSC settings?

Thanks again guys, it’s very appreciated!

Encore may not, but Premiere Pro CS4 with the update WILL bring in .VOBs

Why not rip the DVD .VOBs and import them into PP sequences and then Dynamic Link the sequences into Encore.

I did this yesterday with no troubles.

May 8, 2009 at 1:09 pm in reply to: Choppy video on DVD export

I’m in no way an expert, but I know that on my last project I had that same choppy look during fast motion, and so I went into Premiere and in the Project window right-click on the footage –> Interpret Footage and in the Field Order section I would select Conform to Upper Field First.

I hope this helps. From what I have found, DV should be upper field first in interlaced footage.

  • Hi Jeff,

I’ve done a test burn and I’ve changed video’s settings to Interpret as Upper Field First and it’s really helping the quality.

I’ll keep playing with this, but I wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

    Kind Regards,

  • Luckily I didn’t capture the footage, it was provided on a hard drive.

In the Premiere Sequence Settings box, it says that the video is Lower Field First, but it’s greyed out.

How can I see what the source footage is? Like I said they’re Quicktime files and I do have Quicktime Pro if that helps.

    Many thanks,
    Clint
