CS4 – Encore+Premiere+Dynamic Link = Low Quality?
Hi All,
I’m hoping that someone can help with what I think is an encoding problem. I have a large project on my hands, a 4 DVD set, each disc has 100 minutes on it. Simple menu.
Each disc has 5 20-minute episodes.
Each episode is a sequence in Premiere linked to Encore by Dynamic Link.I’ve used the DV-PAL Widescreen 48kHz preset for all the sequences.
I’ve also used the Interpret Footage command to conform all the footage to D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.4587)
All videos are really high quality Quicktime Videos (approx. 12 GB each) with the following specs:
Format: YUV422 codec, 720 x 575, Millions, 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000kHz
FPS: 25.00
Data Rate: 167.62 mbits/secAfter burning the DVD on 4x speed, all the videos are really jumpy during pans and quick action.
Can anyone offer any possible solutions? The client is expecting the final disc to play as smoothly as the QuickTimes.Many, many thanks in advance,

What is the field order of the source footage and the Pr sequence?

Do you think you could help me out and tell me how to view that information? I’m not too sure how to do it.

That makes things harder. I know Matrox gets involved with field order during capture and maybe in the project settings and export as well. I don’t use Matrox, and that is one of the reasons why.
File>Interpret Footage will tell you how Pr sees the field order. However, that may or may not be accurate because Matrox is involved.
You can find out the sequence settings by going to Sequence>Sequence Settings.
The important thing is to maintain the field order from capture all the way through export. If you don’t, then you get the symptoms that you have described.

Luckily I didn’t capture the footage, it was provided on a hard drive.
In the Premiere Sequence Settings box, it says that the video is Lower Field First, but it’s greyed out.
How can I see what the source footage is? Like I said they’re Quicktime files and I do have Quicktime Pro if that helps.

I’ve done a test burn and I’ve changed video’s settings to Interpret as Upper Field First and it’s really helping the quality.
I’ll keep playing with this, but I wanted to thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
