Is there a tried and true workflow for going from Vegas to Final Cut?

My client had trouble with the Avid DNxHD Quicktime codec so they upgraded to Vegas Pro and rendered it as a MXF file.

I downloaded the Sony Log & Transfer Plugin found here: https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcamex-downloads-LogTransferUtilityAppleFCP.shtml

But I still can’t get the MXF files into FCP. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

They sent me a test clip in QT but the file size was very small and the quality, particularly the color, was not great.

Maybe their settings were wrong. I’m not familiar with Sony Vegas – does it have the capability to produce high quality HD files?

I agree he should just buy FCP.

The source material was HDV shot with a Sony HDR-FX7.

Is there a format I should suggest for the uncompressed version?

Here is what Gspot says:

AVI Copy of DV Audio: 32.6 MB (5.05%)
AVI Overhead: 2.17 MB (0.34%)

The file was created using the “Render As” option in Sony Vegas.

The client told me it looked crystal clear on their equipment.

Forgive my ignorance – you asked about the format; isn’t the format AVI? I also don’t understand the question about how FCP is reading the file and what software it is using. Isn’t FCP the software?
