The rep that I talked to (equipment vendor, not Panasonic) had a program installed on his laptop that he said is a free download from Panasonic. It had a video window, playback/scrub controls, metadata screen, and hot list. I don’t remember the other cool features. One thing that was amazing was how much metadata is stored with these clips…it’s crazy!
Anyway, since I’m needling this vendors hard to find an affordable HD solution that also complements our workflow, he showed us how this application would allow our project manager in the field to do view the video and do their shot selection without tying up the camera. It was pretty slick. And the price is right.

You could throw ’em into a laptop instead and use the free software from Panasonic to scrub through your clips. That’s how it was shown to us today (we had a sales dude swing thru, since we’re looking into P2) on a laptop. The guy didn’t have a camera with him because, well, they’re hard to come by 🙂 But the software looks slick.

The only thing you wouldn’t want to to do is put in something like a Nike concept or Coke concept unless you deliberately put small text in the corner saying “experiment” or something of that nature. The reason is you don’t want someone getting the idea you’re trying to fool them into thinking you do work for an impressive client. So if you’re brainstorming using a “client” who has no idea who you are, it’s always good to distinguish that right up front 🙂

Works fine for me on my Canopus machine here at work and on my dpsVelocity at home. But I use the Velocity plug-ins for previewing out of that one anyway.

You could try this plugin, it’s a freebie download. I haven’t tried it, but it’s supposed to do what you want with a lens-flared layer. Odds are it’ll work the same for a Particular layer. It uses the luminance value to generate an alpha.

No, you are not. Those are licensed logos and you must go through a certification process. One criteria is glass mastering. As a content provider or duplicator you cannot use that logo for burned discs.
If, however, you are sending your final product to a licensed duplicator, you can use it in your label. They pay the $5000 or so license fee to be able to use it and comply with its requirements for manufacturing and duplication.
Now if this is your wedding video and you’re not selling or distributing it, go right ahead 🙂 But if this project is being distributed in any way, leave the logo off. You can make your own DVD Video logo as long as it’s not a blatant rip-off of theirs.
