I am not able to import mpeg2’s at 23.98 into DVD Studio Pro from Episode Pro but clips at 29.97 import fine. I get the error message “Incompatible Format”. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?

Yes, we will be upconverting the DVCPRO HD output to a 1080 23.98 D5 for archival.

The reason I ask is that since there obviously will be a pulldown when I go out to tape and I have the option of making it advanced (in the system settings – playback tab) or normal, I want to make sure I am not forcing fields to blend by choosing normal which is the default for 720P DVCPRO HD. We want to stay 23.98 the whole way through. The D5 master will be 23.98, so I just want to make sure I’m not messing with the flow.

thank you Shane and Charlie. I’m glad I can go back and forth between 29.97 and 23.98 for the music composer so easily. do you think I could still benifit from the Naetress conversion software for this project?

Shane, the info in your blog about using a 29.97 timeline to figure out the length in 23.98 was great help.

The stock footage is definitely 59.94 (for some reason). We have a good deal with the owner, so I’d like to use it. I was hoping I could convert it using the panasonic frame rate converter but that didn’t work (got error message). Ideally I would like to convert it somehow, but if I gotta render, I gotta render. I guess I could just do a batch export of the renders to avoid rerendering since I won’t need to reference source tc.

Frame blending – Yes we will be doing motion effects. I was told by someone that there are pulldown issues caused by frame blending.

The 1200 deck we have has no sdi out and therefore we can’t use the rs422 connection. As far as I know, you can’t “edit to tape” with firewire control.

I have experimented with timecode offset and got that straightened out. The 2 frame a/v sync offset I will check in the prefs. Hopefully it’s already checked in the easy setup if it’s a DVCPRO HD thing.

Anymore personal experiences (related to the topic) would be appreciated.
