    UPDATE –

Deleting everything having to do with QMaster and QAdministrator (by searching these terms in Spotlight) and then reinstalling from the separate “extras” QMaster installer on the FCPS2 install disk – and THEN assigning the computer as a quickcluster in the control panel – made compressor work.

This is a part of a major legacy issue… I’m having the same problem – when I try switching to Quickcluster with Services I get a “qmasterd not running” error message.

I had this issue in Compressor 2 and the workaround was to open Terminal and type “sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster” then my password, then “exit.” Magically, “this computer” would appear in the cluster config dropdown the next time I opened compressor and I could use everything normally until the next restart.

I’m about to call Apple and see if my 90 day tech support is of any use.

  • I just discovered that that was the issue! Now I just wish our DP would give me more pre-roll after the bars so the deck could cue properly…!
