Do you have sufficient RAM on your system?
When doing these stills, do you have other applications open and running in addition to FCP?
Is your media on a separate drive from your main system and applications?
As Mark asked, what are the pixel dimensions of the stills in relation to your project?
Any of these factors can affect performance in the way you describe.

Vol 4 Chapter 10, “Importing and Exporting EDLs”

EDLs were used to transport information among linear editing systems. You can do a V1 track, (plus a V2 if a Key source). For tracks above V1 you have to export separate EDLs.

Not at my Mac just now, but I believe you can just click the drive icon, do Command-I (or ctl-click/right-click to Get Info)and view and change if necessary the status of the “Ignore permissions on this drive” checkbox at bottom of the Get Info box.

Sounds like your files may be carrying file type and creator codes, which allow Finder to know the kind of files and what app created them, when no file extension is present. This goes back to the pre-OSX days, when Macs didn’t need or use file extensions.
There are some apps to edit this data, might be worth a try.
One that looks interesting and allows batch processing is Type and Creator Changer.
Search VersionTracker or MacUpdate for others.

I think you might have to create a separate entry in your address book for each distinct address. You should be able to use the same First/Last name for each. Just drag all to a Group in Address Book. Make sure you don’t exceed any limits on cc:s your ISP may have, so they don’t think you;re SPAMming.

Don’t know of a system-wide command, but you could enter or open your text file in a text editor app like TextWrangler (free), and use it’s “Change Case” command under the “Text” menu, then bring that version back into your particular application.

An issue I have run into, at least with Spanish-language translations (I barely passed my Spanish courses, too) is that the translators (who may also be the VO talent) believed that they were to provide an exact word-for-word version of the English copy. The result is transliteration, not translation. Many English-language idoms and phrasing just do not sensibly translate to other languages. The translator/talent should have some leeway to re-phrase an expression into a more colloquial form that an audience in that language won’t laugh at as awkward speech, or worse, misunderstand the meaning, if not the words. This approach can frequently lead to expressions of an idea that might fit into the original time slot.
Mark’s suggestions for purposely doing a slightly slower-paced English reading to accommodate translation, or shooting alternate versions in production are really the best ways to work this.
Not sure that you can recoup costs for all your time spent in a re-edit, although in this case it looks like there really wasn’t another way out.
While subtitling and captioning are another solution, some of the dual language material I had worked on was for training of people who were assumed to not have great reading abilities in either language.

No problem whatever on 10.4.11/Safari 3.0.4 w latest Flash plugins (9.0); G4 MDD 1.2GHz, 1.25GB RAM. Is the other user reporting same problem also on older OS, Safari and Flash plug versions?
