I would like to see 64 bit as well. I would like to see an update to all the transitions and video filters in the Effects tab too. I am sure they will add more editing codecs. With the rise of people using HDSLR cameras, I wonder if they will add support for them i.e. convert your files and ingest right into FCP instead of using Compressor or Mpeg Streamclip first.

On a recent music video shoot, I used the Canon 5D Mark II and the HVX200. We shot in 1920x1080p on both cameras. What I noticed in post was that the HVX200 had jaggy lines in the shots with any motion. I was told that I should have removed the advanced pulldown prior to editing and that would have eliminated those jaggy lines. Needless to say, I didn’t use a lot of the HVX footage. The colors of the HVX weren’t as rich as the Canon 5D too. I had to do some serious color color correction to try and get it to match as close as possible.

Sorry to respond to you late. I tend to leave my shutter at 1/60 and then make adjustments from there. I always shoot Manual mode and hardly switch it off of that. I may play around with Shutter Priority sometime to see what kind of results I get.

Actually nope. I am running FCP 6 on my Powermac G5 right now and I have FCP 7 on my Macbook Pro. FCP 6 is the end of the line for my G5 unless I upgrade that to a newer Mac Pro machine. Your welcome…hope you get the answers you need. So how do you like the Nikon D7000? I am considering getting one. I shoot with a D90 now.

The Apple Intermediate Codec I am told is what will do the trick if you don’t have access to the ProRes codecs. I can’t remember what FCP5 has now since I have been using FCP6 and 7, but if it has other HD codecs in the list like DVCPROHD or XDCAMHD etc, you can see if any of those will work. Find a codec that will allow for 1920x1080p.
Also take a look at the link below which is a thread from another forum where someone is having the same issue as you but they have a Canon 7D and are using FCP5. Since both cameras shoot 1920×1080 you should be able to do what is suggested there and see if it works for you. The ultimate thing to do is upgrade FCP to version 6 or 7 that way you have access to the newer codecs for HD editing.

Well i have the Matrox MXO2 Mini that is supposed to be be able to do up/down/cross conversions. I have yet to try it and need to figure out how to do so. I read one post that said to continue editing in HD then export that file to Compressor and do the down conversion there but this HD video is going to SD MiniDV Tape.

I went ahead and edited the music video and it plays back fine. I didn’t have to render anything I put on the timeline (excluding filters and transitions). The issue I have now or maybe its the same original issue is that Matrox didn’t have a 1080p 23.98 codec option to select when I was first starting my project so I chose 29.97 as that was the only listed for the frame size I wanted to use (see my original posting). So I exported it out of FCP and compressed it in Compressor. In Compressor it shows it has the 1920×1080 1080p 23.98 compression codec! So I chose that setting. The compression went fine and I sent the compressed file to someone and they said it looked like the lips were out of sync. Everything looked good on my timeline before the export and compression.
I am trying to backtrack now and see what I could do differently. We are premiering the video tomorrow so I have to figure this out. Don’t want this artist looking silly with his mouth not matching!!!
