Which format are you using on the FS-4? .M2T I assume? I have been using various firestore’s for years with my 250u’s. Never had any problems when I roll SD AVI but for some reason, I have always had problems with HDV in Vegas. Sony doesn’t like the QuickTime files, and in my case, the M2T files actually seem to be missing a video frame or two between clips when I import.
I think John may be on to something with his long GOP theory.

Hey Chad, thanks for doing the homework on this and reporting back. Just curious if you could elaborate on the status of their new build that would support NTSC and 30 frame Hd? Did you chat with them directly on this and reiterate that there is a huge demand for their product on this side of the pond as well? Are they currently working on the new build, or is this a planned project for them?
I have read on their message boards that someone with some basic coding knowledge can manipulate the program to deal with the frame/field dominance issues? Do you feel that that is something that is easy enough that we here on the board can work through it and share the results?

I see what you’re getting at Doug, they does make a lot of sense. Hopefully the AJA people that check in on this board will note your request.
I had thought about using two Ki Pro’s for quick and dirty “linear editing” to build a quick highlight package for sports. I guess I would need this update as well to make that work.

Hey Doug, there is a box, I want to call it like the “Rosetta Stone” but I know that’s not right, that may solve that problem. Hopefully someone will jump in that knows what I’m talking about, but we used to use them for a variety of applications like this back in the deck-to-deck linear days.

I’m thinking the same thing Chad. If Caspar CG works as advertised, this may be a great solution for the price (FREE! How often does that happen?)
I’m really curious about these Bluefish cards though, does anyone use them and can you provide some insight? At this point they just look like overpriced BM cards for this particular application.

Cheapest “real” CG is probably something from Compix or CGenie, but you’re still looking at a several thousand dollar investment at least. If you do go the Panny 400 route, you can get the DVI input card and they claim you can feed it from a PC or MAC running Photoshop and create decent graphics that way (See the brochure on the 400 page). My original plan was to use the Blackmagic card with key/fill outputs, but then you would be eating up two valuable inputs on the switcher, so you are looking at least one extra SDI input card.

Looks like I purged all of those old manuals during my last spring cleaning. I’ve got another idea though.
I know that Telex/Clearcom has a very extensive equipment manual library online, as well as several detailed “papers” on two-wire system set up. Many of the older ones haven’t been updated in many years, and I seem to recall they had diagrams on wiring that old Sony equipment, and what modifications you have to make. There is one document in particular that is over 100 pages long, and discusses just about every possible wiring scenario you can ever run into. If you can find that one on their site, you will probably have your answer. If you cannot locate let me know, I may have it in my PDF database somewhere.

I don’t think it’s pass through, but that’s the way I have mine wired. I always make it a habit to record a few minutes of bars/tone, rehearsal, camera test, whatever; and play it back to make sure everything is set up properly. I know that at the very least if something major is wrong you will probably catch it that way, plus the talent always wants to see what they did after it’s over!
