Thanks for the link. I was hoping to get feedback from someone who has knowledge of a particular product.
As stated in my original post, this is not for displaying a computer but rather recording a DVI hd signal. Some medical devices (ultrasound, fluoroscope) produce an HD image but only offer DVI outputs, with the intent of displaying on a HD monitor, or composite outputs.

Thus, screen capture software is irrelevant because these devices do not use a computer but rather a proprietary hardware/software combination (a black box).

but it will not scan convert. So if your DVI signal is not a 29.97 signal (and is 30 for example), you will not be able to output to a professional recording device (like an AJA Ki Pro, or AJA or Blackamgic card).

I have personally used the Ensemble MITTO, but it’s 5 grand. Yes, it works great. The Matrox you just found for $1000 sounds just like the Ensemble MITTO, but I have never personally tried it.

This lower cost Blackmagic box looks like it might work. Looking to record the HD-SDI signal to this:

Just need to find out the frame rate of the various devices. You raise a good point. Ultrasound and C-Arm imaging is likely not going to be a standard video frame rate. That being said, I have recorded such signals without incident to DVCAM and DVCPRO25.

I’ve done almost exactly what it sounds like you’re doing (DVI output from a medical scope converted to SDI for recording) using a Folsom ImagePro HD scan converter. It’s been a couple years since I did it last, so there may be other/better options available now, but I used the ImagePro for this on a number of occasions and it always worked great. The nice thing about the Folsom is that it has every option you could want for handling the resolution and frame rate conversions needed, so no matter what sort of signal the DVI is sending you, you should be able to convert it happily.
