I am in the same boat as you but I have been doing video production for 4 years now. Right now I do own the Sony HDR-FX1. I have used Sony pretty much throughout my whole career thus far and for someone who is going to point and shoot I would point anyone towards this camera. It very simple to use, there is little worry about focus unless you want to control it and take it off auto focus and the DV quality is great. As for a mic system, I use a wirelss mic Sennheiser EW 100G2. But you can find other mic’s like a small shot gun or what ever you need. For accessories you can find them depending on what your need is. But from my point of view, the FX1 is a good balance between price and quality!

Workflow…not sure if this is what you are asking for but this is what I do right now.
I shoot with a Sony HDR-FX1, then import using apple G5 and FCP 5, when shot in hd i use the sony 1080i 60p setting in FCP edit and put back to tape on the camera.
Hope that is what you are looking for if not let me know

    Thanks again to everyone!

Sorry Bob, was out on a shoot. But you guys nailed it on the head. It doesn’t have that film look when I shoot it. I was first excited when I bought Lumiere HD because the result was great and it had that film look (after I went through a great deal of time and work converting it to an XML file) So that is my true concern. That is why I bought FCP 5. And then I was told to just buy a Kona card and it will give me the results I am looking for. For a monitor, run an HDMI cable out of my G5 straight into my HD monitor. It is an element electronics hdtv actually. I have played other HD things off of this and they look good, but when I run from my camera to the monitor it looks like a good tv shot, but when I am working in FCP I just don’t see the result I was looking for.

Thanks for all of you help
