  • anything that is 8 bit stays 8 bit unless it is degrained by neatvideo or debanded.
    if you changed the gamma, and you need to ungrade the gamma later, you need 10 bit or higher. 16 bit is overkill unless you need 100% lossless TIFF/DPX/PNG image sequences. Even prores 12 bit or arriraw 12 bit is enough. 16bit can hold raw in linear light format for cgi. A high bitrate wavelet codec like 12 bit Apple ProRes 4444 XQ or 444, or even 422 HQ could be enough for multigenerational grading.

    you can use any size as long as you have..
    1. evenly divisible number of pixels
    2. fields, duration, same pixel aspect ratio(width/height)
    3. same number of audio channels(codec must support large # of audio channel and metadata)
    4. same framerate
    5. unique parent folder

    the actual size is dependent on how large you are viewing the proxies. for example, a small source monitor only needs 460 pixels and a full screen needs, full resolution. 10 bit proxies will grade better. choosing between cineform, prores, and dhxhd depends on the full color pipeline you are choosing. any offline full render from premiere will clip arri color permanently to rec. 709 while an XML to resolve will keep arri color wide color gamut all the way through to DCI.

  • its possible it can stream uncompressed. the best way to check difference mode is apply heavy contrast to both clips before difference mode as our eyes may not see 4:2:0 color recompression hidden in low luminance values; or better yet, a RGB pixel sampler.

    huh? an old DCI white? the christie projectors themselves are also calibrated D63 SMPTE-RP-431. Is there any old reference to this? even if it used to be standard 10 years ago, i don’t see how its useful for modern projectors. I know the old film bulbs were D55 a long time ago.

    the easy DCP converter and player doesn’t seem to play/convert the official DCI white, only D65. since I need a calibrated professional render, I submitted a ticket, never heard back. I’m assuming they are not implementing this DCI standard?

    rec. 709 doesn’t have an official gamma. BT1886 made a new 2.4 standard for grading in a 2.4 environment for bluray/some broadcast stuff. srgb embedding is safer in browsers for embedding. some may take rec. 709 as 2.4 wrongly because of the missing standard. you always take a risk in embedding as rec. 709 because it could be anything.

    9/10 they also want 16-235 video levels when asking for yuv. but not necessarily. you’ll need to ask that one too.

  • even the browser google chrome shifts my white point. try different browsers. also, try legal range 16-235 or my correction lut I made for youtube/vimeo(export as lut in final ame)
