sorry, I forgot to link to my eyeball keyer project. It works like primatte’s plugging but it’s free. Just remove the smart blur and use the comp as a track matte. Also, autotrace can be usefull.

it looks pretty simple and you won’t need to learn mocha, but you still should 😉 Simply take 4 layers of color blobs, and each one gets a distort-corner pin stretch at different speeds/ammounts.

There’s 3 ways I would do this.
1. motion tracking would be really fast if you set the confidence level to 90% so if he turns,it will break, and you can manually drag it in a few spots.
2. primatte keyer comes with a plugging algorithm that thresholds the size groups of the color being keyed, removing small specks.
3. use my eyeball key script in reverse to alpha out the problem.

such a random problem is hard to diagnose. You can write protect the preferences file until it’s resolved. At least that way, it won’t reset…in the meantime, I suggest updating all drivers.

if you don’t have special plugins, a really easy/fast/free way to do it is use cc bender on each layer and animate them together.

when working, it’s helpful to lock all the layers you’re done tweaking with, and even hiding them. A lot less undo’s.

use fractal blob, then fill color, set as screen, add, or multiply. If you want, I have a template for all this stuff, it’s called lightleaks.

just type smoke in the search box and you’ll get a lot of useful advice. And next time, use a really cold bottle of Rum at 10 degrees F. It won’t freeze and will give off nice vapour. After shoot, open bottle, serve.

If they want perfect quality back out, some good suggestions are Quicktime’s PNG movie, jpeg2000. There’s smaller sizes but you start losing quality, ex. mpeg2,mpeg4, h264, or anything else with less than 4:4:4 encoding. A good tradeoff is photojpeg, it’s visually lossless but not math lossless. Depends on what anti-generation loss you need.
