another thing you can try is the free virtualdub with gunner thalin’s deshaker plugin. It has a comprehensive set of rotation vectors.
    It’s amazing. Here’s a youtube of it.

first off, you need to interpret fields on. There’s scanlines in there.

secondly, I wrote a quick template that uses find edges as an alpha matte for unsharp so it doesn’t go crazy. then I added a deartifactor in there because the chroma is artifacty. Is that a word? As for SD to HD, bicubic resizing is the best. You get it from photoshop extended.

try ae’s subwarp or perspective warp a little before giving up on it. It’s a lot faster than timewarp.

and nope it wouldn’t be 200%. The 2 numbers, have to match, the timestretch and timewarp. For example. timestrech makes the video 2x faster and 50% timewarp slows it down. They cancel out leaving new frames created but the same speed.

if you simply apply an overall tint, you’re affecting all the colors equally and they start merging into the same color. The background and foreground become hard to distinguish from each other and read as flat almost like b/w.

Now if you create mattes, you can tint highlights separately or reds, or saturate opposing color. I just gave a few templates so you could see other options available. I hope you have fun grading. It’s the candy part of the project.

try 2 and 3 strip approaches to color grading. Most lower end camcorders need perfect lighting to pick up vivid color. Overall global tinting often reduces color ranges and separation of actors to background.

in after effects, if you take a video, precomp it and timestretch that precomp 50% and add timewarp 50% to it, you’ll smooth out any motion by creating new frames by averaging betweem motion areas. I’ve tried it on handheld footage and it seems to work fairly decently.

    furthing basic tweaking in timewarp:
    vector detail 100
    smoothing iterations 28
    filtering extreme

  • and remember, just because you can export to a bigger color profile doesn’t mean you should. You can end up with posterization where there’s not enough data to spread across the color transform and create banding even in 32bpc. It has to dither somewhere back into the real world on your monitor.

I also remember reading that Adobe specifically says, try to stay in the same workspace and export as your original footage and the largest original profile is your lowest common denominator less you crop data.

you can get the same chroma smoothing as most expensive keyers for free by simply adding an adjustment layer with ae’s median effect at 2-4 and set the transfer mode set to color.

this recipe will get you 85% the way there.

    small f stop 1.4
use a polarized lens so there’s no reflections and you can compress the dynamic range better
record for the highlights because you’re going to crush the blacks anyway rgb input black 10 with individual levels or contrast. There’s no white-white either so drop the output white 255 to 235.
unsharp filter once or twice in ae
vibrance in ae 10% if your camera isn’t a red
some parts look like 7% tinted pinkish-brown
