Pin the anchor point of the second text layer to the top using sourceRectAtTime. Then using sourceRectAtTime in the position parameter you can calculate the height of the first text layer and in essence pin the second text layer to the bottom edge of the first one. There are many examples in this forum just search for sourceRectAtTime. Evan Abrams and Jake in Motion have videos on this topic as well.

Could it be that the layer is parented to the layer you are trying to link the opacity to?

This would be an easier solution if you don’t need much variability.

You could use a slider that controls the character placement of \r code. Set a text animator to words and use the slider to position the carriage return.

Or hard code the two variants into the text layer and use an if statement based on comp width to control which variation to display.

Change your text layer from point to paragraph and then set your text box size to what you want. You can also use \r to add a carriage return in your expression.

You can separate dimensions and pick whip the effect to your tracker. Or use an expression.

Don’t multiple by 10. The further each layer gets back the bigger the difference between them. If you’re okay with the spacing being the same add (+) a number.

….position[2] + 100

For each layer down it will move it back in z space by 100 pixels.
