There are several presets you can use for either 29.97 or 23.97 in both SD and HD with the Firetsore and the HVX-200. Just make sure whatever you use, you match your camera set-up with the appropriate Easy Setup within FCP.

Yes, you will get 4 audio tracks. Be sure to set up either DVCPROHD 59.97 or 23.97 in Easy Setups within FCP (whichever format you shot in)and you should be able to import your Quicktime clips directly into FCP and edit and playback in RT without any problems whatsoever.

I really doubt that Color comes in as the “color corrector of choice” for most FCP users. Most use the simple 3-way CC that has always shipped with FCP. Maybe the next iteration of Color will be more GUI friendly and support more formats. Maybe after viewing Walter’s Color tome, more people will adopt it ;>)
As far as Matrox and the Nvidia, it takes two to tango, and apps such as Boris Blue STILL only support a very few video cards. I think you need to cut Matrox a break, as Adobe also advertises full compatibilty on the Mac, until Leopard came along! As has already been mentioned, if the Matrox solution doesn’t work for you, buy something else. -
Yes for different flavors of output, the MXO is hard to beat. As far as Color and PPro support, I don’t use Color, I use Magic Bullet Looks, so that isn’t a deal breaker for me. Also Leopard support for PPro isn’t even available from Adobe until December (if we are lucky!), so that point is moot. I’m sure Matrox will have a working driver for PPro by then. The new MBP Nvidia driver is an issue, but I’m sure they are working on that as we speak. I was just ecstatic that they already have the Leopard drivers working on both my Leopard machines already! I will be screening a HD feature with it in less than two weeks!

I use both the MXO and AJA products, and I really like the MXO for my MBP laptop, especially when outputting DVCPROHD to HD projectors in theatres. I have also been using it with my Octocore, since I have been waiting to see if I want to spring for another Kona card or IOHD for it. Most all of my work is P2 now, so the Matrox solution is serving me just fine. I really like my AJA products, but I do believe the days of needing machine control and tape ingest are disappearing quite rapidly. AND the beta drivers for the MXO are working in Leopard RIGHT NOW.

Yes, I just did the Leopard upgrade on my MBP and Octo, which I have used the MXO box for. I usually only use the MXO with my laptop. These computers are usually used only for clients who have HDV projects (a very small minority!), and I used the MXO for external monitoring. So I took a chance. My main editing machine will remain “Leopardless” for quite awhile! The IO and Kona LH are rock solid on that one! On a good note, Boot Camp installed over the beta fine on the Octo, even though the install process was nothing at all like it was described in the set up instructions!

The Matrox MXO 2.0 drivers also don’t work in Leopard. The MXO box is dead. FCP Rescue 6 is broken. Mac Janitor broken. All Adobe apps seem to be opening up fine, but I will have to actually do some work in them to see if they are really stable. Repair permissions does take forever, and what I find amusing is the only warning it gives is the remote access update file from software update I received after installing Leopard! Fortunately I am leaving my main editing system alone for quite awhile until all the bugs are ironed out!

And, I just got an email from ATTO saying their Leopard drivers are ready! Things are looking up!
