Don’t forget Facilis TerraBlock…extremely easy to setup and administer. You can get it up and running literally within an hour.

Check it out at : https://www.facilis2.com/

    Hi Rafalaos,

Thanks for your reply. We will ensure that the mic level is properly pre-amped and it will be a good signal as it is coming from a v/o room.

Basically I just need to confirm that FCP will recognise the M-Audio Fast Track USB device in the Voice Over Tool.

    Hi Jeremy…

Yes that is exactly what we are doing.

Is there a way to render out a 1080i version without throwing out half the temporal motion, perhaps through some conversion plugins or even a standalone conversion software ?

Hey thanks all of you for your valuable inputs. I’m somewhat clearer now that what I’m seeing is probably due to the progressive to interlaced conversion that is causing some of the clips to have “stroby” motion.

I’m from PAL land so all these 59.94, 29.97, drop and non-drop is kinda daunting for me so I’m slowly coming to terms with it.

    What a wonderful industry we’re all in..eh ?

    Hi Shane,

The reason why we had to do a 720p29.97 sequence is that we need to export an OMF audio from FCP to give to the ProTools house which can only work with 29.97 instead of 59.94.

We also did a self contained movie export of the 720p59.94 sequence and then import it back to FCP and edit it into a 1080i29.97 timeline but we noticed some of the motion, especially fast motion clips, have some stroby look to it so we’re trying to see if there’s a better method of converting from 59.94 to 29.97.

For this project, the final master is 1080i29.97.

Sorry this may sound weird but also need to find out if there is a good conversion tool/software to convert 720p59.94 to 720p29.97.

    Thanks,

You need to have a super fast RAID array inorder to capture HD 4:4:4 1080i at 60fps if you intend to go uncompressed. If not you should consider capturing it to DVCProHD or ProRes codec.

I’d suggest you find out more about what the deck has in terms of output and if your Decklink card supports dual link 4:4:4 input, if not your only option is to capture as single link 4:2:2.

The Thomson Viper is just a camera head and records to either a field DDR or a HDCAM SR field recorder. Find out more from the company that you’re getting the Viper camera from…they will be able to advise you more on the VTR details.

Since you’re not exactly sure what is needed, it’s best to find out more. What’s your FCP setup like ?

    November 28, 2007 at 4:35 am in reply to: 59.94NDF and 29.97DF

    Hey there Wally,

So it is possible to edit everything in 720p59.94NDF and then master out via the Kona3 as 1080i 29.97DF ?

How do I set this up on the K3 ? Do I just set the upconversion to 1080i29.97 ?

And what about VTR control ? Do I create a deck preset to 29.97 DF ?

Basically this project that my customer is doing starts off in the editing process at 720p59.94NDF and they need to export an OMF audio for the ProTools mixing house but we were told that ProTools only works in 29.97 and not 59.94. Would it matter if we export the OMF audio from the 720p59.94NDF FCP timeline and give it to the ProTools house ?

The final mixed audio (stereo AIFF) from the ProTools house will then get edited back to the 720p59.94NDF timeline and master out to 1080i29.97DF on Panasonic D5 VTR.

    Is the above possible ?
