    Hello,

We are starting a shoot in the next few days and we have this opportunity to use the Viper Film Stream camera. However, we’ve never used this camera so we don’t know how it will take in our final cut 6 system.

All I know from the camera is that it has its own dedicated deck but don’t know the specifications of the deck (has SDI out?). We have a black magic extreme card. We plan to shoot 4.4.4 Video Stream 1080 at 60fps. What should we be looking out for in terms of workflow or even set up? We want to know whether we will even be able to capture the footage on the machine and/or use this format in Final Cut Pro 6. Please help us!

    Thank you!

    Shirlyn:

Who is renting you the camera? Call them. Call them right now.

Ask them the model number of the deck, and what inputs & outputs it has. While you’re at it, ask which tape stock it uses.

You need to have a super fast RAID array inorder to capture HD 4:4:4 1080i at 60fps if you intend to go uncompressed. If not you should consider capturing it to DVCProHD or ProRes codec.

I’d suggest you find out more about what the deck has in terms of output and if your Decklink card supports dual link 4:4:4 input, if not your only option is to capture as single link 4:2:2.

The Thomson Viper is just a camera head and records to either a field DDR or a HDCAM SR field recorder. Find out more from the company that you’re getting the Viper camera from…they will be able to advise you more on the VTR details.

Since you’re not exactly sure what is needed, it’s best to find out more. What’s your FCP setup like ?

If you go 444, don’t forget Sheer. Lose less and files half size of the Apple Uncompress codecs.

[Shirlyn Wong] ” We plan to shoot 4.4.4 Video Stream 1080 at 60fps.”

the Current models of the Viper cameras do not shoot 60 fps in RGB.

Sony F23, HDC1500 and 2 others do, but not the Viper.

and I am not sure your DL EX card can handle that format either. Sony only ever shows this Dual Link 60fps workflow running on Kona Cards.

you had better have a really good DIT on your shoot.
