  • Hi Shane. Is that still the case here in March? That Io XT and PP 6 are problematic? I’m working on non-Retina 2012 MBPro and still determining my best bet. The dual Thunderbolt makes this the most likely choice, but I might go to PP later in the year for software.

Honestly, guys, I’m having excellent success by just throwing two bare drives into the MacPro and striping them together with Apple’s Disk Utility. I’m easily getting between 150/s on the lowest end (when drives are getting full) to 180MB/s on a normal day. Super cheap. Super easy. Cuts through anything but uncompressed HD like butter. I’m doing 1080p ProRes HQ without a single complaint.

    No fuss, no muss.

    Hi,

I like using a Panasonic or JVC prosumer S-VHS decks from the early 2000’s. A number of their models had built in TBC/frame synchronizer. So, that, combined with using the S-video cable (even with normal VHS) really helps and cleans things up.

The problem is, its getting harder to find these decks. This could really become a problems for archives. I wouldnt use anything else for capturing VHS.

Solved! The combo package download is the key for many Mac Pro owners.

Oh well, it’s a luxury I guess. Looks great after capture. F900 footage from India! I’m salivating.

OK, thanks. I’ll just have to tell my producer to wait until I finish or we can stop the capture process and check the clips on a case by case basis.

Thats right. Its a 1080i prosumer Sony CRT. Has awesome dynamic range.

But if that was the issue, then why do I get to view the downrezzed live preview video during capture with the added pulldown? That seems like even more work for the card.

The AJA Control Panel confirms that it can only show either 23.98 HD or 29.97 SD downconvert during Log and Capture. Is this not an issue for Kona 3 or Io-HD?

Its a luxury thing, you know. The producer is the one who is most disappointed about this. They cant watch a nice image during ingest.

I’ve experimented further and have come to believe that it is impossible of the Kona LHeand FCP6 to do a live preview from HD 23.98 to HD 29.97 while capturing. Only playback from the Viewer or Canvas.

    Hi,

I have a Kona LHe and recently had a Red 2k project that I used a batch process in Compressor to crop for 1080. Was that a waste of time? Is there a better way? I needed my clips to be real native clips in my 1080 timeline with no green RT bars.

  • Would love to learn more about the problems. If any of you know of a thread or article you could pass on to me, that would be great.
