It came from and is going to a G4 MDD FW800 Dual 1.42. This drive was an original but was then cloned for safety. In the old machine – it was not designated as the boot drive, the clone was – does this make a difference?

when I do this, I get two symbols on the screen. On the left is a circular arrow (return?) on the right is an arrow pointing to the right (next?). Pressing either of these doesn’t get any response from computer. What now?

    Many thanks!

  • Thanks Paul, I’ll keep looking. I have found a place called galaxyhp in the pacific northwest that fixes them for 160 us. I’ll keep looking on the net as well! Many thanks! Kind Regards, Chris K.

    1. Thank you David!

    2. Zane, this is why I asked about the alternate workflow of SD until I can afford to upgrade my Mac and my AJA acquistion card/bob and then re-aquire the cut as HD. Any further thoughts? Kind Regards, Chris K.

I haven’t heard of the Manufacturer, but I have had great experience with Macgurus “roll your own” raids. There are numerous options from bare bones build it yourself models to decked out plug and play versions. The owner Rick has even called me back to double check on a problem (my own stupidity) they had helped me solve earlier. If customer service is a must for you – do yourself a favor and put them on your list. Best of luck, Kind Regards, Chris K.

Hi Walter, Thank you for the info. Do you know what codec this would be using and how cumbersome/large the files are? I don’t expect many extensive graphics but I don’t want to bog the computer down if I don’t have to. Kind Regards, Chris K.

Hey Jim, I’ve heard of the Sony line of cameras having problems with the fw port getting burned out. They say this happens when the fw cable is plugged in while the camera and the computer are on. Apparently it’s possible to short out during the connection process with the voltage that is carried through the firewire. From your description it sounds like this is your problem. Best of luck! Kind Regards, Chris K.
