It was operator error. There was a background video layer and an additional text layer that I hadn’t deleted and those were causing the problem. Thanks for everyone’s suggestions – they helped me isolate my mistake quickly and move on. Kind Regards, Chris K

I’m unfamiliar with Ilife but it sounds as if your field dominance is off. See if IDVD/Ilife lets you choose field dominance. I believe your field dominance is upper for that version. (Please correct me if I’m wrong) Hope this helps – I’ve been in the “avoid the bride’s phone call mode” before. Kind Regards, Chris

Please search online forums carefully. I have read some really scathing reviews about the Lite On products. I recently purchased a new old stock Pioneer 320 for under 150 on ebay. Pioneer seems to have a decent rep. Hope this helps, Kind Regards, Chris

Hi Greg, I’ve been using the Mac Guru 5bay drive with port multiplier card into my sonnet4x sata control card. I also purchased the roll your own version. The build was incredibly fast and easy and sometimes you can find deals on drives through mass drive retailers that Mac Gurus couldn’t ever match. I used 5 500gb seagates and ended up with about 2.36 usable terrabytes. The drives have been operating flawlessly for about 4 months now. I’m using M100 8.2.2 Dual G4 1.42ghz 1.5Gbram OS 10.3.9 cutting at 300kb Beta SP/DV Cam/DV. Rick is the owner there and very courteous, friendly and extremely knowledgable. There product is very good. I can’t speak about G-Sata. I’m sure they also make a good product – but – I’ve never had customer service like Mac Gurus before. Best of Luck! Kind Regards, Chris

Don’t forget to read the fine print on your DVD recorder. If it’s anything like mine, you’ll have to go through the process of “finishing” a DVD in order for it to play on anything else. If you don’t “finish” the disk, it will only play on your recorder. Best of Luck, Chris

I have heard that many recorders (no specific brand singled out) create disks that play back on a limited number of machines. Have either of you had this experience? Thanks again for your input! Chris K

Hey, Congrats on all the new toys. I would highly recommend checking out mac gurus and the roll your own sata drives. They have great customer service and are very easy to assemble. Just attach your drives to their sleds – slide them in and plug in your 1 sata cable. I’m using a 5bay with 5 500gb drives and get 2.3 usable with throughput fast enough for your needs. Later you could stripe 2 of these 5 bays together and get up 450mb sustained – check their tables for exact speeds. Best of luck – Chris K

Maybe what he’s saying is that you should create duplicate projects. One named “_____for 8.2.3” and one named “_______for11”. This way you could always revert to the “_______for 8.2.3” in case you run into something unforseen in the move to 11. Just a thought – congrats on your new purchase! Keep us posted on your experience. Kind Regards, Chris K
