    Hi there

I’m juggling projects and machine changes. I know not a particularly clever position to be in but there ya go…

Anyway I’ve got a new G5 machine coming loaded with M100 V11 but I’ve started work on a project on my existing G4 machine in V8.2.3a. I want to finish the project on the new machine if possible. Will I be able to open V8.2.3a project files, access bins, program lines etc in V11?

    Cheers in advance.

Yes, you will be able to open everything on your G5 with Media 100 SW, BUT ONCE YOU DO, you will no longer be able to access those programs and bins in Media 100 8.2.3a. As a matter do fact, ONLY UNDER CERTAIN STUPID CONDITIONS, will you be able to import your exported movies from Media 100 11 in a reasonable amount of time. Say you have a fade to black in a movie, the import time jumps from five minutes to SEVEN HOURS. Even a BLANK SPACE can cause such a jump in import time. Truthfully, MEDIA 100 SW IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT FIREWIRE IN & OUT.

Maybe what he’s saying is that you should create duplicate projects. One named “_____for 8.2.3” and one named “_______for11”. This way you could always revert to the “_______for 8.2.3” in case you run into something unforseen in the move to 11. Just a thought – congrats on your new purchase! Keep us posted on your experience. Kind Regards, Chris K

Did you buy sw as Jim thinks or a full system with hardware? If you have one with hardware there is no reason not to finish the projects on the new machine. But definitely make sure that you have backups of your bins and timelines somewhere.

Yes it is a full hardware system. Sorry I should have made that clear. Thanks for all your help.

    Cheers Tankboy
