If I turn off an audio track in the timeline, does media 100 not look for it – or does it just not output the signal from that track? Disk utility shows all drives working properly. Will try to ID the bad clip. Thanks! Chris

Thanks, Floh – Glad to know I’m on the right track! Also, The new codecs for m100 has incredibly improved the render time for aspect conversion in AE. What was 2 hours per minute turned into 6 minutes per minute. Also, not moving the image by 1 pixel gave me a much closer/cleaner representation of the original. Any thoughts? Bitvice trial is now also working much faster and having done the conversion in AE there is no vertical banding when put to DVD via DVDSP. Is there a sharpness control in Bitvice that won’t cause too much noise. Maybe AE has the better filter? Compressor seems to have handled the 640 to 720 conversion cleaner than AE which I don’t understand – but the colors through Compressor are way off and are requiring a lot of adjustments. 1 setting does not work for the entire 90 minute program and recoloring every scene of the movie just for DVD seems rediculous. Hey Paul, I can’t thank you enough for responding. It’s almost like “I’m not all alone”! Anyway, I only rendered a 1 min test which took 2 hours. I noticed that it appeared to be a field shift that caused the blurriness. I’m using a letterbox on the footage and noticed it had an edge that went “soft” from the orginal. With time running out, I haven’t had time to do more AE testing. I was using studio RGB in BitVice – hence the superior colors there. I’m able to get close in Compressor and like hand grenades close is good enough! Do you know anything about the new m100 codecs with M100 HD that work in M100i? Supposedly they allow compressor to read “reference” and “self contained” m100 files without compressor crashing and speed up AE rendering times etc. Kind Regards, Chris K.

Hey Paul, Floh sent me some great instructions which you just confirmed. I tried a test and it looks quite a bit softer now. Is this natural? Do you know if I can get Compressor to recognize a m100 “self contained” or by “reference file”. Compressor seems to handle the resizing much better than Bitvice (Although Bitvice has far superior colors)and as I’m running out of time, I’ll sacrifice color over sharpness this time. I installed the transcoder in the library
Thanks for the tutorial Floh! If I can’t follow that – I should hang it up! Is there a trial version(free) of SW that I can download that would do the scaling also. The production team all watched tests yesterday, and hands down Bitvice produced the best color but had vertical banding. I’m guesssing the AE scaling will eliminate the Bitvice Banding? Since the film is going out for sale – We want it to look the best – will the AE scaling or the New M100 scaling produce the cleanest image? Since we’re going to buy BitVice we’re trying to keep other costs as low as possible. Many Thanks, Kind Regards, Chris K.
Hey PaulyG, Is this why I see a lot of vertical banding in the bitvice output when it does the 640 to 720 conversion. The program is 90 minutes. It’s on a 733 machine. Hey Andy, I’m glad you replied, becuase my research has produced the same info. I thought I was going to committ a horrible Mac Sin by saying what you just said. Mac Creators wake up!!! – maybe someone can create a program that will equal CCE for the MAC. We already know a program like that will cost money – but now I’m facing buying a fast PC and CCE software – about a 2500US chunk of cash. I’d pay the 1995 to bitvice if they could equal the speed and quality of CCE. Why is there alway 1 thing mac doesn’t = PCs in. I’ll always use mac to create – but I’d love to stay there through delivery! Kind Regards! Chris K
Hey Clayton. I have your setup as my backup/2nd sytem. M100 is so reliable. I put my new m100 V822 on a g4 dual 1.42 system with 1.25 gb ram and a 2.3TB sata drive from Mac Gurus. Render times are so much faster. I have the SDI option with DV and it all works flawlessly. Best of luck with your new purchases! Kind Regards, Chris K.
