First off:
Export from Premiere to AME.
Choose the mpeg2 DVD preset.
Let it match settings for you.
Slide the quality up to 7MB/s if there’s room on the disc.
Slide the quality bar to best/full.

Make note of est. file size when done as you adjust the data rate.

Render.
Import A&V clips into Adobe Encore.
Make DVD.
View in Living room.
You’ll be fine.

Second:
Going forward, if the new footage will be mixed with current, shoot 720p/30 – it’ll match, no fuss.

My suggestion was to send them a word doc, a script.
Let them translate that.

YOU burn in subtitles with the transcript they send back to you.

The norm is to send the text to the translator and when you get the translation back from them, YOU build the new grfx.

import into DVDPro…

I can’t figure out what you mean by that statement but this is how to do what you want to do:

Rip the DVD to .MOV files using the DV50 Codec (or prores)720×480, with matching fields and frame rate to the DVD (see mpeg streamclip).

Import the QT’s into FCP.

Edit away in a DV50 (or prores) sequence till done and happy.

Export using “Current Settings”

Drop that file into Compressor and create your mpeg2 DVD ready files.
Import DVD files into DVDSP and create/burn new DVD.

Not the end of the world, at least they are both progressive.
Drop the 1280/60 stuff onto a new sequence and make a match.
Use this is for your edit. Drop in the 1080/24 into that sequence and don’t change the sequence settings, it will need to render, but you gain room to move on the frame. You can shrink back the 1080 stuff by 33% and can move around the frame etc.

The 24p look will not be the same.

Run a test with a few shots, make a DVD or bluray disc and view it in the living room.
