We all have different ways of working or accomplishing the end result.
It just seems like maybe you compressed twice.

I would not run SD DV footage thru compression to remove interlace to edit and compress again for web.

The grfx you built separate in a pro-res sequence; You could have built them in the dv25 timeline and then render all in dv50 @ the end. This will yield ghood results for all grfx.

Output finished piece “current settings” ref file.
Drop that into your compression software and when u create the web clip, deinterlace there.

You don’t mention what your sequence settings are….

But, If your trying to playback off your internal drive – this could cause playback issues. Are you working in HD?

It doesn’t mean the clip is bad or anything.
What are your plans with the exported clip?

Are you next compression for DVD or web?

Put the exported clip on a fast drive or re-import back into FCP to have better performance.

DV25, was it shot interlaced?

Why not de-interlace the final product after the edit while u compress for web?

I would edit the vid and grfx and all in a dv25 timeline.
When the edit is done. Change sequence settings to DV50 and best in the render tabs. Render. Export ref file. Compress for web/DVD/Etc.

Data Rate: 25 Mbps This is why it is called DV25. This data rate is both fixed and constant. It does not matter if the video is a high action sequence or is totally black, it’s data rate will always be 25Mbps. While this can be inefficient, it also makes it easy to predict how much space an amount of video will take up on a hard drive. Here are some useful figures (sizes are approximate):

1 Second = 3.5 MB
1 Minute = 215 MB
4 Minutes, 40 Seconds = 1 GB
1 Hour = 13 GB

I was doing firewire from camera and to a firewire drive. The MBP only has one FW800 port. The trans times are deathly slow. A little over an hour for a 32GB card. Seemed like having 2 devices on the FW bus was slowing it down more…
The desktop does better w/ trans times.
This is what I find anyway.

I believe there is a grid you can turn on for placement guidelines.
Also, you can look @ the numeric of ea. clips placement.

I have installed a card reader in the PC and it takes 10 minutes to copy a 30 gig card

What is this? U talking Windows Comp? What card reader?

I’m thinking about that USB reader for $300 bucks. Yes, I hook up the cam. I don’t need to transfer while still shooting very often. So hooking up the cam to transfer data off the cards via the P2CMS software is what I do.

I was unaware the cam was the slowest link.
If I could transfer a 32GB card in under 30 Min. I would be thrilled!
