Ya, we use mpeg streamclip to rip dvd’s too. You have the option of upper or lower fields when u rip. You can make ur own presets.

The teacher probably wants all proj. & media files as proof that they edited the final vid. themselves and did not lift/borrow/steal a finished/edited piece?

That or they can critique the work in detail as it pertains to procedures. May not be to edit and work with off the Disc.

Is it small enough that you can go back and rip the PAL dv to upper fields? Then replace media?

Pal is upper fields isn’t it? (I’m in NTSC Land)

You could use DV50 instead. That has the better color space and really anything more is wasted on ripped DVD footage, unless you have a TON of grfx…

Ya, if you had a HDV timeline and footage. Then, change the codec to Pro-res, u’ll need to render all.

If u can go back and transcode the canon clips to 1920 X 1080 u’ll have more to work with.

Dropping ur 16X9 into the 4X3 timeline will loose resolution as u have to scale up to fill screen.

Output ur HD timeline as “Current Settings” making a ref file and drop that into compressor and choose a SD format on the conversion options and it’ll make a full 4X3 file that you csn then work with.

It’s the shutter speed. Fast shutter, choppy footage.
@ 24p u should try 1/60 on the shutter with that pan and see what it looks like for you.

Buy the most powerful Mac Tower there is. Put a lot of ram in it.
Get 3 extra internal SATA HD (1-2TB)

I/O cards to consider are from AJA/Black Magic/Matrox.

Raid box – look to the sides of this page @ the ads.

Get a small mixer to run the audio in and out. Good studio monitors for sound.

Look to Flanders Scientific for HD monitoring.

Get some Ext. smaller HD’s for backups.

Get a nice desk/console and chair too.
