Why not use a background behind the 4×3 that is 1080?
Grfx or double up the images and stretch/blur/lower opacity of the background.

Bad Idea! Never scale up your footage past 100% – you loose quality/resolution.
Can you screen capture @ the SD settings? Or as close as possible?

Take you 720X480 timeline and when the edit is done – change the codec to DV50 and re-render all.

Take the screen capture file and output from the app/making a .mov file using the dv50 codec and bring it into FCP. If you cannot not make the screen capture close to or at 720X480 then take the screen capture file into Compressor and output a DV50 clip using the dv50 codec @ 720X480.

What format are you editing in? Is this a SD project? or a HD?
What is your final delivery format?

A 1080i 59.94 10 bit RGB 4:4:4 QuickTime file size, is going to be what it is. If you want smaller file sizes, record/capture to a different setting, Down converting on ingest will make smaller SD files but you don’t want that I’m sure.

8 bit files will be smaller. Did you record in 10 bit? If not, don’t bother didging in 10 bit.

You could run all your files thru compressor and convert them to motion jpeg codec, this would greatly reduce the file size, but at a cost.
Just except it, 1080i 59.94 10 bit RGB 4:4:4 is going to be what it is.
Buy a hard drive, they’re Cheap!

Don’t forget to feather.
Also there is a plugin for better crop and feather. Allows for selective side feathering. Very Helpful. \

There is a setting in the 170 menu to monitor audio as recorded or live thru.

That being said, I think the Producer is hearing Ch. 3&4

Easy to do, you have the ideal scenario to mask that.
Double up the track and apply a crop on the top layer.
Maybe add a third layer and crop too. Using the wall just above and just below the paper to cover.

You can also get an audio splitter. Runs two XLR in and one out.
Cable adapter.
