    Hi all,

I have some interview footage with a ugly poster on the wall (see image attached). I was wondering if there is any way to remove this object from the footage, maybe by making a mask of the wall from another place in the footage.

I’ve had a look in the past forums, and found nothing, any tips on how to do it or where to look to find out how, if it is indeed possible would be most appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Danielle

Easy to do, you have the ideal scenario to mask that.
Double up the track and apply a crop on the top layer.
Maybe add a third layer and crop too. Using the wall just above and just below the paper to cover.

Ahh the crop tool, I’ve always wondered how to use that!

    Thank you.

Only thing is now trying to match up the color of the new piece of wall against the old one. I’m using the color corrector to adjust the mids and whites, but its pretty painstaking to get it correct, don’t suppose you know a quicker way to do that do you?

Also another problem, later on in the footage he steps in front of the sign, I’m pretty sure the same cropping wont work having to work around his head.

    Thank you for your help.

I think will be very hard to get the same color because the wall has very noticeable gradients.
You will end up with a kind of patch on the wall.

Yes it is difficult to match the wall colour, however I don’t think impossible. What is making it look terrible is that there are small white boxes around each cropped layer? No idea how to get rid of these.

    Don’t forget to feather.
Also there is a plugin for better crop and feather. Allows for selective side feathering. Very Helpful. \

You’ll have to do some rotoscoping [link]. FCP doesn’t really have the toolset for this, but either After Effects or Motion does.

You could take the image into Photoshop. Erase the poster and touch it up with content aware auto-fill. Bring that image back in to FCP and use it as a mask (crop and feather). Should work as long as he’s not a hand talker waving his arms around.

    Hi there,

thanks for that. Yeah unfortunately he is a bit of a hand waver so I’m having to do some of it frame by frame. It seems to be working with the crop and feather tools though.
