That depends a whole lot on how the conversion is done.

Use a Teranex for best results.
Send a Master off to a place that does foreign conversions.
Use compressor to convert.

ya, you want to make mov’s for FCP editing.

Try mpeg streamclip too for conversions, it’s free.

Your clip and your sequence settings must match.

Drop a clip into a blank, new sequence and let FCP change the settings to match for you.

Well first off:

If all your footage is PAL, you might better leave it that way for now.

You need to convert all footage to a format FCP likes.

PAL DV50 would be a good place to start. Mpeg streamclip is free, get it.

Once edited. Output “Current Settings”

Compress for web.

Convert PAL clip to NTSC clip while compressing for DVD.

What are your settings on the clips in the browser?
What are your sequence settings?

Your sequence should match your clips.

You shot 1920X1080.
Do you convert to Prores 1080?
Are you @ 60i or 30p or 24p?

Look @ your clips in the browser.
Drop a clip into a new sequence and let FCP change sequence settings to match.

Did you adjust frame controls?

Did you tweak the data rate?

Choose a preset to start with , then save as and adjust?

Copy the clips and paste them into a DVCPRO HD Sequence.
Adjust as needed.
