Whenever you compress a video file there is some to much image quality loss. Export your sequence using “Current Settings”
Take that file into your compression program and make the deliverable. In your case, a mov file w/ .h264 codec. Choose a high data rate and frame controls to preserve quality.

The kona3 card should give you a clean and very acceptable downconvert on output.

  • Prores is a cleaner codec. That being said, you will not gain anything by converting your DVCPROHD clips/finished movies to prores.

Start with a Prores Sequence. Put it all in there, you can edit with realtime.

    Final full render.
    Export “Current Settings”

These clips are less then full screen – even for SD.

When you convert them as dave mentioned. I would leave the size UNchanged to avoid further image degradation.

They will be letterbox and pillar box in a NTSC sequence.
You can double up the video layer and blow up the back ground, blur, lower opacity to fill the screen if you want. Or you could use a jump back grfx.

Airlines had a weight limit of 50 lbs for the golf bag.
    Big fees for over weight.

If you converted it to ProRes, you should be able to view it just fine. Can your mac play and view the original mp4 file?

    Can AE play that file?

Create a 720×480 Anamorphic Timeline in AE, drop this clip in it.
    Render out a dv50 mov

I just spent a week traveling and shooting.
I choose to rent a light kit in each city. Travel with gear is a royal pain. I brought sticks in a hard shell golf bag. Camera, Laptop. I was loaded down. Choose not to bring my light kit which is in a carry hard shell/HEAVY.

Next time, I’m renting sticks as well as lights.
    Just my 2 cents.
