Hi – thanks for replying. Yeah I’m adjusting the tracking – unfortunately these are family videos and there is about 200 hours of footage and I have no budget. I’m not wanting to edit them into anything, just to protect them from tape degradation over time.

ok, let me rephrase… is there a codec which has a better chance of working on a Windows PC than if I randomly pick something in Compressor?

I’m using 3.51. Quicktime doesn’t seem to want to open the file…
I attached the audio files to each speaker, added the video then applied MPEG2 compression setting and sent to batch.. that seems to be the way to do it?

Ok so I’ve made my Mpeg 2 with the surround function in compressor, but when I open the video file in mpeg streamclip it says I only have stereo audio… is this normal? Or have I done something wrong?
(Btw I was given 5 audio tracks to allocate for the 5.1 surround)

Just needed to know it was possible so I didn’t spend hours trying to figure out whether it can be done… I will check the compressor manual now..

Tried MPEG Streamclip and everything seems fine. No idea what Compressor was doing to it.
I guess I’ll just go with MPEG Streamclip from now on.

I used Compressor, but I’ll try streamclip and see if it makes any difference.

Yes, I was hoping for something more automated than that. I have over 400 video files and I figured if Final Cut Pro knows the metadata of the name of the file, there might be a filter that would “burn” that information onto each clip, like with the timecode generator…
